Alfa Romeo reveals all-new Mi.To

03/14/2008, 8:50 AM

By Drew Johnson

After several months of spy shots and speculations, Alfa Romeo has finally taken the wraps off of its all-new Mi.To. The Mi.To — which is short for Milan and Turin — was rumored to be called either the Junior or Furiosa, but those two names obviously lost out to the official nameplate.

The Mi.To is the first new release from Alfa Romeo since the 8C Competizione, and the two-door hatch largely follows the styling cues of its sports car big brother.

At launch, the Mi.To will be available with a range of four gasoline and diesel four-cylinder powerplants — ranging from 90 horsepower to 155. Alfa Romeo says higher-output engines will be offered a little after the Mi.To’s launch.

The Mi.To will make its press debut sometime in June, with sales following in July.

It’s visually more dynamic than a Mini, yet it’s cute.

I could do without the subaru tribeca front end. But, the other angles seem cool.

I think Furiosa would have been a better name. Come on, Mito? First impression was “My Toe”

“Mi.To” is a wordplay on “mito”, which is Italian for “Myth”.

Looks cool, although I’m sure it’ll piss off 8C owners because it looks like a hatchback version of it :D

This car is beautiful. If they offer it on the American market, however, they’ll have to change the name. We won’t get it.

i like that theres definately some 8C in the visual design. Probably cant say that for the performance though.

I guess you don’t know this hateful but Alfa has been doing their grills like that since the 40’s, at least 10 years before Subaru even existed.

O ya and this car is really nice, I wish I could have one in the highest output they will make and supercharge it =)

It’s got beauty…lots of it…and weirdly enough, the front license plate holder on the front side of the car rather than the front center.

That front overhang is enormous. They’ll make more selling replacement front air dams than they’ll make on the car itself.

Such a winner car.

” weirdly enough, the front license plate holder on the front side of the car rather than the front center ”

Alfas came like that since the 156 which is a 1997 model.

Subaru’s most recent design chief was a transplant from Alfa.. which explains why the Tribeca and Impreza got the inverted-Alfa front end for a few years. Unfortunately, instead of evolving what could have been a distinctive design for the second generation, they dumped it outright for the Chrysler Pacifica treatment.

I’m EXTREMELY hopeful that Maserati/Alfa brings this to the US ASAP!

global_lightning, the name apparently is short for Milan.Torino (Turin), hence Mi.To. What a moronic name.

It’s horrible. Are you all smokin’ crack? They shoehorned a 8C front and rear on a 2-box design. It’s a joke and cheapens the 8C in the process.

Are you kidding me? This has the shape of the VW Scirocco, but looks WAY better. This is one of the most beautifully designed compacts I’ve ever seen.
