Alfa Romeo has shown its new Brera coupe to the Italian press in advance of its launch in Italy in January. The car will go on sale across Europe a couple of months later. With a target of 20,000 sales a year, the Brera is a key car for Alfa as it attempts to revive sales. It could also spearhead a return to the United States for the brand, according to Edmunds. Alfa has been absent from the U.S. market since the 164 sedan in the early 1990s. The Brera is styled by Giugiaro but engineered by Pininfarina. It is powered by a 260-horsepower, 3.2-liter V6 with a six-speed manual gearbox, giving it a 0-to-60-mph time of about 7 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph. Brera prices start at $40,000, and top-specification models will be priced at around $65,000 in Europe.
