Alfa Romeo has confirmed plans for a new flagship sedan. The new four-door – set to arrive in 2014 – will be launched in place of a large, luxury Alfa Romeo SUV.
The new flagship sedan will continue Alfa’s aspirations to become a “near premium” contender in the global market, taking on brands like Volkswagen and Volvo. Although Alfa Romeo has yet to show a concept of the new vehicle, it revealed its plans to investors at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show.
Thanks to Fiat’s corporate partnership with Chrysler, the new sedan will likely be based on the next-generation Chrysler 300 – meaning Alfa will finally have a front engine, rear drive model back in its lineup. The car will reportedly arrive with a V6 engine, but it remains to be seen if that means Chrysler’s 3.6L Pentastar unit or a powerplant unique to the Italian automaker.
The big sedan – which could arrive as the Montreal or 6C – is likely to be build alongside the 300 in Canada. The sedan will be a major part of Alfa Romeo’s relaunch into the U.S., so look for it to hit our shores sometime during 2014.
