Alfa Romeo unveils 159 Limited Edition to celebrate Bond cameo

12/04/2008, 10:06 AM

By Andrew Ganz

If you’ve seen the latest James Bond flilck, Quantum of Solace, you know that the Alfa Romeo 159 plays a part in the opening sequence. To celebrate the cameo, the Italian automaker is offering a limited-edition 159 sedan swathed in the same black scheme as the cars used in the movie’s chase scene.

The 159 Limited Edition (pictured in front of MI6’s London headquarters) features a lowered suspension, red Brembo brake callipers, sports dials with a red background, black leather upholstery, Carbonio black metallic paint and darkened 19-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels.

Just 250 examples will be produced, all with the 150-horsepower, 1.9-liter JTDM diesel engine. UK buyers will pay £22,168.

In addition, Alfa Romeo UK will offer movie fans the opportunity to win James Bond Quantum of Solace Scalextric race sets equipped with the 159 and the Aston Martin DBS to stage their own car chases.

Looks like a Lancer.

I think it would be more accurate to say that the Lancer looks like the Alfa Romeo, seeing as the Alfa came out first with this design.

I don’t think a company such as Alfa Romeo and its design history would find inspiration from the likes of an economy car. Sounds more likely that the inspiration would go the other way.

That aside, this car looks good, and always has. I wish they had this thing in the US.

I start breathing heavily. I may have the same reaction as A4 does when new Audi image comes about. Sorry, I have to excuse myself.

It still surprises me that one of these little guys could keep up with a 510 hp DBS in the movie when the 150 hp alfa is only about 200-300 pounds lighter…
