I personally like the color. 515 pounds is a substancial number. Race teams fight for ounces, this is a knock-out. The car does need more power and suspension upgrades thou. Lighten the car, and give it more power, equals quicker. Thats a lot of money, but then again it takes money to go faster.

Obviously you don’t know anything about the mz4 coupe if you think the engine, suspension and brakes are not up to par.

Instead of a whole body exercise that noone can afford, they need to make simple changeout parts like carbon fiber hoods, doors etc.

Hermie that is true, but it is 12 times stronger than steel for the same weight. Think about all the posibilities… having a car weigh less than half as much as it would if made out of alluminum or steel. Better economy, faster, and in the long run if they can figure out how to mass produce it at a cheap price longer lasting! Now all they need to do is get rid of the piston engine… old technology, that is inneficient. That is truley what’s holding the automobiles potential back, the piston engine. And engines that run on fossil fuel in particular or source(s)that run on fossil fuel to create the needed energy.
After making more efficient engines, lighter and more aerodynamic cars the potential for the automobile will be at it’s full… then we’ll have to move to spaceships

Now this MZ4 Coupe will perform as well as the 2002 M Coupe, which for that 1 year came with the European 321-hp engine and did 0-60 in about 4.4 I believe with a 13 flat quarter. Oh and that car handled as well too I am sure, even if many did not find the exterior design appealing…

Yeah I’d love to get some performance numbers too!

Although it’d be mainly things like acceleration, braking, cornering and handling that would be improved.

Top speed would be largely unaffected by the weight loss. Weight is very important when it comes to acceleration, but ALMOST meaningless for top speed. (ALMOST so nobody jumps on me)

For top speed, by far the largest form　of resistance on the car is air resistance, not friction in the parts or with the road, or not even so much lost in the tires. Air resistance increases exponentially with speed, and is ultimately largely responsible for limiting top speed. Unless my memory is faulty, I believe it’s a square relationship. If you double the speed, air resistance increases goes up 4x. If you triple the speed, resistance goes up 9x.
(say from… 50km/h – 100km/h, or 50km/h – 150 km/h) That’s why it becomes quickly, and increasingly, more difficult to accelerate. Of course that’s why aero design/work is so important.

that is a truly WOW car. I’m pretty sure they already did a similar rebody for the z4 roadster, and they were charging >150k for the finished car, not merely 10K, as someone guessed above…. I wonder whether the finished body is built to the same standard that bmw would attempt if they decided to do a carbon body… I’m guessing no, but still, 500lbs gone on an already tiny car… wow.

Ummm, it wasn’t BMW’s doing … it was TC Kline’s. This could have been done to any car given an interest, time and money.

Won’t be mass marketed for quite some time, unfortunately.

Leaving out my distaste for this BMW design … an exercise in showcasing their ability, nothing more.
