how did alpina manage to slow down the 0-60 time by a tenth of a second? the 335i runs 4.8 and this thing runs 4.9 with 60 more horses.

My Vishnu 335i has 337 hp at the wheels, which is around 380ish at the crank. I don’t see what is so great about this.

However I do really like the rear lip, wheels, exhaust, and overall Alpina look. Do they sell this in the US?

Yeah, I saw that too. They probably mean 2.1 Bar = 30.5 PSI, which is still extremely high for a street motor. It will need 100+ octane racing fuel

BMW will make 4-door M3, question is will it be available here?
To everyone who thinks Alpina is just a tuner (like AC Schnitzer, Breyton, Hartge, Mutec, Hamann, etc.) you’re WRONG. Alpina is manufacturer, it puts it’s own VIN number on vehicles. It developed engines for E53 X5 (4.6is and then 4.8is), but because they have limited production capacity and they’re working with BMW, they’re making cars for niche market. They wont make anything that would cost BMW sales. Carl is right, modern Alpinas are assembled on BMW production lines. In UK you can order some models (D3, Roadster, etc.) from BMW dealer with factory warranty. Reason why we don’t get Alpinas here is they would take away from BMW M-series sales (B5 vs. M5, in everyday driving B5 is much easier to live with, but M5 is better on track. Plus B5 has same 0-62mph as M5, unlimited top speed of 195 mph and better fuel economy too! And in UK it’s just 355 pounds more then M5). That’s why we’ll never see from BMW bringing here Alpina B3, B5 and B6. The only reason we’re getting B7 is BMW doesn’t have a car (performance wise) to compeat with it (read no M7). I’d take Alpina over 760i any day! It’s cheaper, more powerfull and a lot more exclusive!

Not impressed. Ugly side graphics , lots of name labeling on trunk, and 360HP from a twin turbo 3 liter?
Subaru was getting 300Hp from a 2 liter. This car should be getting like 420 at the wheels, 460 at the flywheel.

Carl, Alpina may have strong ties to the company but they are still just a tuner. Roush and Saleen are Ford tuners as well. They all do a great jub but at the end of the day they are tuning a product created by another manufacturer.

If you call Alpina a BMW tuner, they will kick your a$$!

They have strong ties to BMW and the whole product portfolio. The Alpina Cars are even assembled on the BMW factory lines like their ordinary BMW or M-BMW siblings. The reason why they showed the sedan instead of the coupe at Geneva is simple: don’t steal the show from your “parents” (M3 Concept). Actually the B3 BiTurbo will hit the market in every E9x body style Munich is offering: Sedan, Coupe, Convertible and Touring. Furthermore, Alpina is also planning to bring these cars with optional x-Drive. An option you won’t get from M.

Let’s call the guys at the Alpina factory humble (again: respect your parents). Alpina claims 360 bhp and 369 pound-feet of torque, resulting in a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) time of 4.9 s for the B3 BiTurbo Sedan. BMW claims for its lightweight, high-rev V8 420 bhp M3 Coupe beast: 4.8 s.

In real life, the B3 BiTurbo will absolutely own the M3.

This car more likely competes with the likes of the upcoming C63 and the already available RS4. I don’t think 2-door loving M3-ers will go for this.
Also… it would be nice if BMW brought back the 4-door M3.

GM_SALES, you are a complete idot. This has nothing to do and does not compare to the V SERIES. IF you want to compare the v-series to bmw do it the M SERIES. (Which buy the way will own the V-Series) Do you see the relationship? Alpina is a outside source that modifies bmw’s, very unlike the M Series or V Series which are factory run. Looks like the Cadilac CTS-V has got BMW worried… Although, I think even the new Pontiac G8 is going to give this a run for the money. This econobox won’t stand a chance against a 500hp V-series.

And the Cadillac has a much nicer interior, superior reliability and an American nameplate on its side. Sounds like the next CTS is going to be even more of a winner. But the G8 should be a more fair comparo in the buff mags. Even then I’d predict a Pontiac victory.
