Forbes has posted a brief comparison of the Ford Mustang to the Nissan 350Z. Both cars are targeted at enthusiast drivers, but cater to slightly different crowds. The Mustang clearly targets those with a taste for retro styling, a love for big American engines, and an appreciation for muscle car handling. The 350Z, on the other hand, is directed at Japanese car enthusiasts who like sharp handling, and modern looks. Even Forbes points out the flaws in their own comparison: “In some ways, comparing the Mustang and 350Z is not fair.” We agree: different strokes for different folks. Not to mention the 350Z is much smaller than the Mustang, and the base price Mustang is much cheaper. Reviewer Dan Lienert ends by picking the Mustang: “the Mustang is in a class by itself. You can’t get the Z with a V-8, and it doesn’t matter that the Z’s V-6 can, like the Mustang’s V-8, put out 300 horsepower. Muscle cars come with V-8 engines, period.” Well Mr. Lienert, we don’t necessarily agree with you, but for those drivers who must have a V8, the forthcoming Nissan 450Z may be the car they need.
