Upset with a recent arrest for resisting arrest and marijuana possession, Roger Pion, 34, rolled through the Orleans County Sheriff's Department's parking lot on a commercial-grade farm tractor, leaving behind the crushed remains of five cruisers, an unmarked car and a transport van.
And, since Pion crushed the department's entire vehicle fleet, "We had nothing to pursue him with," Chief Deputy Philip Brooks told the Associated Press.
City police officers from Newport were called and caught up with the man a short distance away.
Thankfully no one was hurt in the incident, but the bill for the damage could reach as high as $300,000. In addition to just the cost of the vehicles, Sheriff Kirk Martin notes that "the radios are ruined, the radar detectors, the cages in the cars ... We're going to have to get the jaws of life up here to pry the trunks open and see about the rifles and shotguns."
As a result of the incident, Pion now faces seven counts of felony unlawful mischief, one count of misdemeanor unlawful mischief, one count aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, one count of gross negligent operation, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.
