Just last week we reported that a man in Wisconsin was just 1,200 miles short of crossing the million mile mark in his 1991 Chevrolet Silverado and now comes word of a Ford on the brink of the same milestone. Doug Schell of Holland, Ohio is about to register one million miles on his 1997 Ford E-250 cargo van.
As was the case with the Silverado, Schell bought his van used with about 40,000 miles on the clock. Since the purchase, Schell has racked up between 80,000 and 100,000 miles per year making deliveries for Bolt Express.
But unlike the Silverado, the E-250 hasn’t always received routine maintenance. Schell admits to changing the van’s oil every 10,000 miles and has let it go 55,000 between changes. But despite the van’s less-than-regular maintenance, its engine and transmission have never had to been replaced or rebuilt. However, Schell has done without air conditioning for the past five years.
Schell has no plans to retire the van — in fact, he plans to get at least another 100,000 miles out of it — but was considering “throwing it a party.”

Worthless achievements? If this was some old Corolla that was hitting a million, you’d be wacking off furiously.

Alright, this is getting silly. Domestic vehicles have been hitting million mile marks for years, and suddenly left lane news editors just woke up to that fact? This is nothing new!
These must be posted by a biased import-lover who was shocked to learn of it.

Yea, but that really depends on where he’s using the car. In a tropical country with really bad roads or 300K of field usage in the mountains would kill it long before 500K.

First On Race Day, FORD. I own two ‘97 Ford E150’s with 400,000+ trouble free miles on each! Neither has had engine nor tranny problems! Recently purchased an ‘06 E150 because I got tired of driving the ’97’s….couldn’t wear either one out! Gave them to nephew who still uses both.

Same story as last time… my ‘93 Mustang GT got very few oil changes (or any maintenance work for that matter) and made it almost problem free until about 170,000 miles when I sold it.
A Ford auto is like a woman… treat it like **** and it will never let you down.
