Another take on the Audi A1 (updated)

07/04/2006, 12:00 PM

By admin

(Updated) The latest issue of Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine features an artist’s illustration of the forthcoming Audi A1 compact car. Recent reports have indicated the car could arrive as a 2009 or 2010 model. The magazine reckons it will arrive at IAA 2009 in Frankfurt. The car has been described as a direct rival to BMW’s Mini Cooper. The AMS rendering is somewhat more tame than Autobild’s recent impression. Pricing for the 2+2 seater will be between 16.000 and 18.000, the report says. A convertible roadster version may also be offered. [Front view from magazine cover scan. See also: rear view].

whats the point in haveing such a small car made by a luxury brand? dosent make sense. Audi stay away from this…mini sells because its got heritage, and its cute.

Pure speculation. At least this looks better than the last one. Anyway, there’s no need for such a car. Make an RS-6 instead.

I’d rather take a Mini than this anyday. I’m sure this is a really, really nice car! But then again, it’s just like “whoa! It’s a Mini!” and like previously stated, it’s got heritage.

I think its a nice car but audi should put there money someplace else. I second the RS-6.

If you look at the trends, most car manufacturers are starting to go small. the smart will come to US, and dont forget the yaris, fit, etc. people want more mpg nowadays.

MPG matters and not everyone can afford a RS-6, plus an A1 would make a lot more $ for Audi. It’s pure simple business…

It would be great to compete against the 3-door Civic S-type!!! Or Acura RSX!

Why does Audi need an A1? They already have the A3 3-door…

If it has Quattro and a 6-speed manual, im getting the first one.

Unless, that is, Audi wisens up and brings me a 2.0t Quattro 6-speed A3 3-door. Then the A1 can eat my ass.

Put that new V10 in this little baby, mounted in the rear with the cabin pushed forward a bit. Quattro and DSG, make a sports car proper, it’s about time they do up a true sports car.

Really though a TDI in this would probably sell quite a bit on the entry side. The small cars are selling more and will continue to do so.

A pity they discontinued the Audi A2 for this…
The A2 really was ahead of its time, but unfortunately, sold not too well.
Maybe it was too much ahead of its time..
