ya know, if you word them better, people won't noticed it and you are just making GM look worse by doing this

why am i so damn sure that 1487_GM_SALES, ml350pc and PrimeGTP is the same person?
that is because they appear in every post that is related to GM and they all cheer for this almost bankcrupt automaker as they are still the number 1 automaker in the world

Nissan is down - big surprise. I don't think the new Altima is faring well, mainly because the "package pricing" scheme ends up being a ripoff. If I simply want to add leather to an Altima I end up paying about $4k due to the linked/required packages to leather. If they rethink this strategy their sales may go up, and I like the Altima, but not when I can get what I want elsewhere for thousands less.

I've said for a long time that Toyota would make it to #1, and then realize they don't have what it takes corporately to deal with the pressures of being the top dog. So far, I haven't seen anything that shows otherwise. Hopefully GM uses their time as #2 wisely, to rethink how they run their operations. They got way too cocky and complacent.

For those that love to hate GM, their YTD Retail sales, excluding intentionally reduced low margin daily rental fleet sales, were positive when compared with 2006 when adjusted for the number of selling days (2 less in 2007). Further on a sales adjusted basis, pickup YOY Pickup sales were also positive when compared with 2006. Apples to Apples....them are the facts!

Well, General Motors growth is stil on pace regardless of this months news. It shouldn't be more than a month till they regain the top spot from Toyota and then significantly outpace them for months after. Those sales will most likely come at the expense of Ford and Chrysler which shouldn't disappoint anyone. And Import sales have obviously crested (First QTR) as it seems they're on a downward slope finally. GM's dominance on the landscape is really starting to take shape and it'll only get better once people get out of their imports and into some real cars.

Kudos to Chrysler. Moving more cars will provide revenue streams to their parts and service channels in the long run. (when the car is out of warranty)

It looks like LLN has finally started editing comments, hopefully this will be an end to homeboy.

I love Toyota's excuse. Would those two days have really made such a big difference? Do they really sell that many cars in two days? And wouldn't that apply to other auto makers as well?

I'm not really surprised that Lincoln sales are up and the rest of Ford is down. They are doing with Lincoln what they need to do with all brands: make one bold, different design theme and center all cars around it.

I'm kinda surprised Jeep is up 40%. I thought people weren't buying too many suvs because of high gas prices.

Poor Nissan.. redesign every car model, add a new family of low-price economy cars, and sales drop with a thud. Maybe Shift 3.0 will be merging with Suzuki?

NIssan and Honda sales are not looking good as of last month. I'm kind of shocked but its good to see others struggling just like Ford and GM. NIssan has a lot of new product out now so that decline cant be a good thing for them.

The problem with Nissan is that they actually pulled forward a lot of buyers into March when they had their big March sales event. So, other than having like six consumers wanting to buy ANY car from any manufacturer in April, Nissan had pulled forward a huge chunk of sales, meaning that most people who were considering a Nissan already bought and left Nissan wont for customers (probably similar with the Ford Fusion, although it wasn't quite as bad as Nissan).

The Honda figures up there are wrong. Honda still sold less, but not 9% less. See:

10VW/Audi 27,192 -2.7 98,552 -0.6

GM and Ford heavy truck sales are removed, so numbers may vary from other sources. Percent changes may vary because some are daily sales rate percent changes while others are volume changes. Either way, Honda cannot get down to -9%....this month.

Regular down in SoCal's been about $3.30-$3.40. Regular in the bay area has been about $3.50-$3.60. There are some gas stations that are less, but it's been varying quite a bit.

Thank god for my Focus!

Egbert i paid $3.37 per gallon this morning, california has an extra tax i think like $.45 per gallon and to top it off they have a special california blend that costs more also. 2 years ago it cost me over $400 a month to commute 50 miles each way in my frontier $300 for the cadillac and $75 for the honda vfr. i quickly moved 8 miles from my job. now it costs an average of $80 for all of them combined. the bad part is my girl drives all over so cal(200 to 500 miles a week) to work as a stripper and it makes good money.

I'll admit I'm holding off on purchasing a new sedan in order to take a look at the new Malibu and the new Accord. Gas prices have hit $2.90+ here in the South so I'm sure a lot of people are going to be holding on to their cars longer in order to pay to drive them. This could be a repeat of what has been happening in the housing market with subprime loans. Think of all those people that are upside down on 60 month and 72 month loans. They may not be coming back for more punishment for some time.

Buick: Down 28.2 percent

Dead brand walking. Fleet sales are a big lifesaver for Buick, and with GM cutting back on rentals, Buick is in sink-or-swim mode. Either they become attractive to retail customers, or they die.

Cadillac: Up 1.8 percent

Cadillac is a healthy brand, posting a minor sales increase even before gems like the new CTS and refreshed STS arrive.

Chevrolet: Down 3.9 percent

Chevy is a difficult brand to pinpoint. The Cobalt is still doing well, though slowing. Aveo, even though I can't see why, keeps selling strong. I would ascribe most of this loss to a reduction in Impala fleet sales, and many consumers waiting for the new Malibu.

GMC: Up 16.7 percent

I personally am sick of all the crossovers and what not, but I can't deny they are comfortable, well-built vehicles. Consumers seem to still want them, if not in quite the fervor of years past.

Hummer: Down 12.3 percent

Hummer...eh...hard to talk about Hummer. Hummer is the epitome of a niche brand, and doesn't follow the normal market directions. They will never sell lots of Hummers.

Pontiac: Down 13 percent

Tough numbers to swallow, but really not all that bad for the keepers of GM's most heavily-fleeted vehicle, the Grand Prix. Lower-trim G6s have also made their way to fleets previously, so the reduction in fleet sales is going to hit Pontiac volume-wise pretty hard. Also, I'm sure many potential consumers are waiting for the new G8. In the big picture, Pontiac is staying afloat alright even though it's basically on the backburner while Saturn is getting most of the revitalizing attention.

Saab: Down 19 percent

Dead brand walking #2. I like the Saab 9-3, but it is way too much extra money for not much improvement over its Epsilon sisters. A little uprated on the interior yes, but the 3.6L V6 in the Aura XR and G6 GTP is superior to the silly imported 2.8L turbo.

Saturn: Up 28.5 percent

Saturn has been born anew, and it shows. Even with GM's inability to advertise effectively, Aura is doing well, Outlook is doing well, and Astra is highly anticipated.

Yes LLN children lets all laugh at Toyota. Other than Chrysler, who spent 4x the cash to move their vehicles, Toyota had the least sales decline for the month as compared to the big 3.

From the linked article:

"The auto industry spent $2,342 per vehicle sold in April"

"Of the top six automakers, Chrysler, owing to its truck and SUV-heavy lineup, spent the most at $3,994 per vehicle. Toyota spent the least at $944"

I know you'll grasp at anything to take a shot at Toyota or point our a weakness but you really should try harder.
