While women may, on average, be much less interested in cars than men, they are the ones who often making buying decisions, according to Marti Barletta of TrendSight Group. “The problem is, many companies following the reasoning that the people who seem most outwardly interested in cars — men — are also the primary buyers,” writes Barletta. “Not so. Best Buy was one of the first corporations to uncover this insight when an in-store study found that, although the majority of shoppers in its stores were indeed men, the majority of buyers were women. Men, who are fundamentally more fascinated with electronics and gadgets, like to come in and browse for what’s new (emphasis on browse). Women came in less frequently by comparison, but when they came, they were ready to purchase.” According to Barletta, 60% of the new car purchases are made by women, and they are influential in 85% of buying decisions overall.

LLN: please stop putting pictures of Paris Hilton up. We could care less, really. And she is not the typical car buyer.

85% of the entire car buying public is retarded anyway. If it was not, the roads would be filled with different cars.
Women try to influence 100% of every decision a man makes.

The stats might explain the inane development of performance SUVs made by Porsche, BMW, Audi, and Mercedes. To me, performance SUV is an oxymoron, but I guess the marketeers had the insight to know the husband wants his HP, the wife wants something practical.

When I watch those “auto sales” shows, I have to agree with this sentiment. Usually it’s the girl/wife that puts her feet down on how much they want to pay, thus influencing the decision on what car to buy.

Back off on la Hilton, she was driving an SLR at the time of her arrest. Wouldn’t you want a girlfriend who not only had a SLR, but also wanted to go for a burger at midnight?

Mike,
I guess you and I differ as to what we consider ‘the perfect woman’.

I kid, I kid.
I am sure your list and mine would match up pretty well when it came to the perfect women to spend my life with. However, I am not in the “market” for a girl that I want to spend the rest of my life with, so at this moment in time, she would be “miss right now”
She would be fun to say the least. Maybe a bit much…Any way people, we are getting WAY Off Topic!

yeah, we are, but i agree, so start marketing to women. they should be the main target of companies, so instead of advertising horsepower outright, put those types of ads in magazines read almost entirely by men (playboy), and the cuter ones in things like Home and Garden. just a thought.

Anyone who buys a car purely on the basis of how “practical” it is, is a dumbass, whether they be male or female. I’ve heard plenty of males [not "men"...] saying that they would never buy a two-door car because it’s so impractical. Stupid fools should never have been given licences.

Amanda – “a coupe reveals its owners casual diregard for practicality”
We have become a society led to believe where everyone must have an SUV or minivan in the stable. When I need an SUV I’ll borrow my ex-wife’s Pilot. Until then its going to be, “kids, climb into the back seat”.

I buy what I want. I don’t influence a GFs car decision, and she doesn’t influence mine. Way I see it, my car will be in my life longer than any girl other than my cat.

i beleive that one should have a practical car if one is in need of such, but otherwise it’s like insurance, in case **** happens. i had a somewhat practical car, 4 doors, 5 seats, big boot and such, but just last week i realised that i didnt need all the room, as im not married, and my girlfriend and i dont have kids, so i sold my Merc C32 and up and bought an S2000. she opposed it too, but in the end, we are both happier. the point of this story was to tell men that its ok sometimes to go against what she says, because she just says it for control. dont let women control you too much.
