Armed rebels impede production at Mexican Nissan plant

07/12/2007, 1:47 PM

By Andrew Ganz

An armed rebel group blew up a natural gas pipeline on Tuesday near Nissan’s factory in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Nissan had to suspend production at the plant until today, when the automaker switched the natural gas operations to liquid petroleum.

Automotive News reports that a natural gas shortage as a result of the explosions also hampered production at a Honda plant in El Salto, near Guadalajara. Honda produces Accords at the plant for Mexican and Central American consumers.

The affected Nissan plant produces a number of cars for North America, including the Sentra and Versa, as well as the Plantina, Tiida, and Renault Clio for Mexican, Central and South American markets.

According to Reuters, the group claiming responsibility for the attacks is the leftist Popular Revolution Army, which carried out four separate attacks on pipelines carrying natural gas, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), crude oil and gasoline. Nissan wasn’t the target for the attacks; rather, Pemex, the state-owned petroleum monopoly, was targeted.

Mexico needs a good revolution/coup. Since the drug gangs/cartels took over, it has turned into a cesspool. It is a third world country that has all the appeal of a night of sex with Rosie O’Donnel.

jackjimturkey, your source for world events is (presumably) rap music?! holy cows! i mean, it’s not like the rapper has an agenda, now does he. im sure he’s not making loads of money off of the less fortunate himself. keeping the people angry angry and purpose-driven enough to buy his music. no, no agenda there. hypocrites.

and do you REALLY think you can compare the condition of Mexico with the US???? you can’t be serious! open yours eyes! if you want facts, just ask for them.

fyi: before you accuse the US or ‘white man’ of holding people down, you should know that the world’s wealthiest man is Carlos Slim, a Mexican telecommunications tycoon. no lie. one check could turn his country around.

I love libs. So concerned with what everyone else is making. It’s the same with people who want to raise taxes on the “rich” because of their own relative high taxes. Instead of misery loves company, why not shoot for low taxes for everybody?!?!

Mexico IS a cesspool. Criminals, terrorists, drug lords… The corruption is outrageous. Yet, there’s a faction in the US that wants an open border…. Anyone up for a trip to Cancun?

I’m not blaming “the white man”
I’m saying that the country is no longer working for the people, simply for the rich and giant faceless corporations.

From my perspective, those are the true villans. When people start trying to tell us we should hate the ‘woods, darkies, zipperheads, greasers, etc., that’s one way of keeping our attention off the fact that we’re all being screwed.

The U.S. is better place to be than mexico, but that’s not really what we should be shooting for.

Glad you mentioned Carlos Slim. he’s pretty much the ultimate roibber baron, catapulted to his wealth by a corrupt government.

mexico is in a sad state, for allthe resources and stuff they have.

I think the rich should pay more taxes than the non-rich, but not to the point at which their standard of living is reduced.

Lower taxes for everybody? Cool. But first,we’ve gotta stop wasting money on George W.’s war, and then reverse the direction of the national debt. kill all foreign aid and crap or get off the pot on illegal immigration

I ain’t no liberal, and I don’t care how much someone else makes, I just want to see folks make their do by hard work or smarts, not by screwing over the working (black, white and latino) man

Piablo, too much Faux News. Nobody wants an open border per se. republicans want easy access to cheap labor for their GFC buddies. Democrats want newcomers who’ll support their agenda, whatever that is.

Too many sheep for the other parties to get a voice.

Jackjimturkey – So you’re a Libertarian? I certainly respect that, much more so than modern Liberalism, aka Communism. It’s a shame though that you’re voting for the Greens, almost a waste of a vote. The key is to find a candidate that matches your views best. It takes work. The big problem we have in this country is not Republicans vs Democrats, or the filthy rich, or the border. It’s the lack of voter involvement. If The People would get off their humps and not only vote in the first place but to also do some research into their candidates that they vote for, this might be a much different country. Of course that also means people can’t be so shy to talk about politics in the first place.

I was a libertarian, but i moved to nebraska and the only registered reds, blues and decline to state. I’ve been decline to state ever since.
The rest of your stuff is dead accurate. we’re too lazy to find our own candidate, so we get two stiffs who are acting against our interest.
I think 2004 was a missed opportunity.
We had Bush: a lousy president.
Kerry: a democrat fro massachusetts (’nuff said) who’s only “virtue” was that he wasn’t bush.

Had there been a third-party candidate who articulaletly laid out his policies and said he’d get the war resolved quickly and properly, and talked in meaningful sentences, he would’ve won.

also, beleive it or not, the 454SS (1990-1993) was not in the same league that the Syclone was. my particualr truck (#478) ran a 13.05–from the factory. it now runs mid-12s effortlessly and consistently (thanks to AWD) with minor modifications.

My voting for Michael Moore was a stetement with how dissatisfied I am with the major parties, and at the same time a tribute to my birthplace. Moore is an entertaining filmmaker, but i wouldn’t take his films as a serious and accurate depiction of anything.

The streisand comment (maybe I should’ve said charley pride?) was to address your disparagement of my “rap.” lyrics.

being signed to Epic Records, a subsidiary of media conglomerate Sony Records. Infectious Grooves released a song called “Do What I Tell Ya!” which mocks lyrics from “Killing in the Name”, accusing the band of being hypocrites. In response to such critiques, Morello offered the rebuttal:

“ When you live in a capitalistic society, the currency of the dissemination of information goes through capitalistic channels. Would Noam Chomsky object to his works being sold at Barnes & Noble? No, because that’s where people buy their books. We’re not interested in preaching to just the converted. It’s great to play abandoned squats run by anarchists, but it’s also great to be able to reach people with a revolutionary message, people from Granada Hills to Stuttgart.[5]

I listen to old-school rap, but the stuff out nowadays is just about drugs, sex, bling and foreign cars.
