Arnold gives up Hummers

09/22/2006, 9:30 AM

By admin

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has sold his fleet of eight Hummers, according to multiple media reports. Valued at over $950,000 the fleet of trucks was the target of much criticism from environmentalists. Schwarzenegger once praised the trucks as “an incredibly precise and forceful machine.” In a speech yesterday on the environment, Al Gore reportedly confirmed the rumors. “Arnie has given up his Hummers,” Mr. Gore said. On Wednesday, the sate of California announced it was suing the six largest automakers operating in the United States for the negative effect of their vehicles on the environment.

Good for him, what did he replace them with and why did he need 8, it’s the waste of resources I object to

And now he wants to kill the Big 3 by suing them over making vehicles like the Hummer? I still say he’s a hypocrite.

Arnold should ask GM to lease him eight Equinox hydrogen vehicles so that he can drink water 24/7 by collecting it from the car’s tailpipe.

Hey Arnold, what about your motorcycle collection? Are you gonna sue Harley Davidson as well? They have dirtied your little state- go sue them!!

I don’t see what he has done to help the environment. He sold them, he didn’t destroy them. This means that someone else is polluting instead of him.

It is funny that they don’t understand the positive effects automobiles have had on their state. Next year, the big 6 should close their dealerships in California and not let any traffic in, particularly 18 wheelers with food and goods.

The suing of car manufacturers for their pollution is so inane, but in 2006 it seems about right.

You’re a loser Arnold. Giving up your Hummers will prove to be the dumbest thing you’ve ever done. Big Oil is not gonna like this. GM is their biggest client with all their gas guzzling SUV’s and Hummer just happens to be the bacon. Well, at least somebody else is gonna enjoy the high life now.

Thank you GM for your dedication to large SUV’s and especially thanks to Hummer. Big Oil couldn’t survive without ya! :)

I am with Born…California would be the 3rd largest agricultral exporter if they where a nation. Those silly repubs back East should read and learn before spouting.

Governments sue companies all the time. It is one of the few avenues WE have against CORPORATIONS. Because “not buying their products will crush ‘em” is a 20th century fantasy. Remember, a facist state would remove this legal channel.

By the way, californians above, get over yourselves. The state lost its cool about 20 years ago.

Upon reflection, Arnold probably has done more damage to the environment and the oil reserves by selling those Hummers instead of keeping them. He can only drive one at a time. Now and likely, all eight will be out and about wasting gasoline and adding GHG to the atmosphere. I can see it now — the new owners driving around to show off to their friends Arnie’s Hummer. Maybe he should have crushed them like GM electric cars.

By the way, California buys more Chevy Tahoes than any other state.
It appears that not all Californians abide by Arnold’s code of conduct.

People, those eight Hummers were Arnold’s to do with as he saw fit. This is America. We are allowed to buy as many vehicles as we want and can afford. We are also allowed to sell them. If you want one, go buy it. If you want Arnold to keep his–well, that is not a choice that you can make. Deal with it.

That is the only time California is plugged in this thread and it’s in response to someone telling us to “get over ourselves”.

Everything else is just looking at the facts.

And Californians government is bunch of hypocrites, as they were the once to give car companies emission standards in a first place. So, in reality, they should sue themselves.

Is there even a legitimate point to owning 8 Hummers? All they all different models or variants of the chassis? Like, maybe he needs 8 because he likes to stack them in his backyard to make a fort… I could understand 8 different unique sports cars or luxury cars, but 8 hummers? Come on, man. Does he really travel around in groups of ~40?
