Just as enthusiasts with deep pockets began to celebrate the addition of another four-door sports saloon with a do-it-yourself transmission, Porsche is looking to even things out by making a change for the worse.

According to sources involved in vehicle development at Porsche who spoke with Car and Driver, due to an unexpectedly low take rate of the manual transmission for the current generation Panamera in the U.S., the next-gen vehicle may come solely equipped with the PDK automatic transmission.

For now, it appears the final decision to include or remove the manual transmission from the list of options on the Panamera is still up in the air, but it will likely come down to the bean counters battling those seeking additional volume at all costs.

Other developments include the switch to electric power steering, a change that is aimed at improving fuel economy by 1-2 percent.
