Aston Martin to debut two new cars at Frankfurt

08/27/2007, 2:15 PM

By Drew Johnson

It has been reported that Aston Martin will debut two new race-inspired cars along side the recently unveiled DBS at next month’s Frankfurt Auto Show. Aston Martin took the wraps off its newest car, the DBS, earlier this month at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

Although specific details remain a mystery, the two cars are believed to be a road-going version of the DB9 and a smaller V8 Vantage, possibly the V8 Vantage RS. The new cars are said to be based on the DB9RS and Vantage N24 and are aimed at the Porsche 911 GT3 and the recent Ferrari F430 Scuderia.

Aston Martin’s CEO Ulrich Bez has also said that the Rapide four-door coupe is a top priority for the company. Aston Martin’s chief designer, Marek Reichman, said the four-door coupe will arrive in 2009 or 2010 and will cost around $400,000. Aston Martin is also working on an all-new super car, dubbed the DBX, but Bez refused to comment on it other than it will be released after the Rapide and will surpass the sedan’s $400,000 price tag.

RAPIDE is going to rock hard core. i only hope that DBX dosent have same fate as Jaguar’s weird XJ220. However with Porsche ramping up the Panamera, will the RAPIDE stand a chance in the states? STAY TUNED!!!!!

The Rapide will be miles ahead of the Panamera in terms of luxury. I cant see the Panamera surpassing 200k in price and the looks are not even close to par with the Rapide.

What are you talking about the XJ220 being wierd? It is one of the most beautiful cars ever made and at one time was the fastest car in the world. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen one in person but if you do you’ll be in awe.

The XJ220’s fate is something that is interesting, and it may not happen to a car in a long time. Nothing was wrong with the car, its twin turbo V6 gave it enough power, but everyone expected it to have a V12. It’s the only car I can think of that would have had a 1995 sticker on it in 1999, and was still “new.” But you can’t compare the DBX to the XJ220.

What Terminator said. I once saw an XJ220 at an auto show, and man was that a beautiful car. It didn’t sell because the developement team had changed alot of the performance aspects of the car, although I consider it a more advanced car because of the changes.

It would be neat to see Aston Martin compete with Ferrari on terms of performance. They already do a good job of that, but think what an Aston Martin supercar would be like…

Under their new owner which is very much performance oriented, they can still keep their overall exterior design and focus on real performance. If they are faster and cheaper than the F430, plus given the long waiting period for a new Ferrari, they may just sell.

400,000 dollars! what the hell is this thing going to be? a Maybach? a Rolls Royce? I thought the Rapide was supposed to be a slightly sportier upscale competier to cars like the Maserati sedan and the upcoming panarama, I was thinging pricing would be maybe 200,000 at the most…

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, I don’t believe it, TWO, did he actually admit to that in writing? There’s a Rexton / erection joke in there somewhere, can anyone do better than “Marital problems, maybe its because you didn’t get a Rexton.”

If you’re planning a family, you should start with a Rexton
