Aston Martin Racing — a partnership between Prodrive and Aston Martin — has developed what they call the “world’s most exclusive rally car.” Called the Aston Martin Rally GT. the car is designed for independent rally teams with more-than-modest budgets.
As part of its development program, the Rally GT has already competed in three French Rally Championship events, coming second in the Series GT class on its debut at the Lyon to Charbonniers Rally. As with the DBR9, the Rally GT uses a standard road car chassis which is fitted with a Prodrive-designed roll cage for safety and increased torsional rigidity. The engine is closely based on the all alloy road car 4.3 litre V8 unit but has been tuned to make it more flexible and responsive for the demands of rallying. Gallery after the jump…

Doing it’s thing. Looks like roads mostly, not getting too much in the dirt.

911’s also have all-wheel-drive, so do they add that to this beefed up/stripped down DBR9, or does it stay rear?

why does aston need to be doing rallying? i thought this was a motorsport for volume makers like subaru/mitsubishi?? how will this make we want to buy an aston more?

For one, it could strengthen their rather “fragile” reputation. By having things break in a rally, they can pin-point the weaknesses of their vehicle and improve on that. This could translate to sturdier, more reliable cars for their customers. It’s a win-win situation.

Is it just me or does this sound wrong on a number of levels? Before this article, I didn’t even know you could use Aston and Rally in the same sentence.

It appears that most of you are under the age of ten and have no sence of automotive history. Before you give knee jerk responces I suggest you do some research before you open your “mouths”. Aston has a history of racing and rally. There are far too many dimwits on this site.

I agree with Bush, if you know your rally history you’d know that Aston Martin’s competition in rallies dates back to around the 1940’s when the had the 15/98 competing in Scotish rallies.
