In an attempt to demonstrate that the Cygnet is more than a rebadged Toyota iQ, Aston Martin has created a pair of videos that emphasize that the city car is (partially) hand made and is also just the thing for hustling through the streets of Hong Kong.

The first video documents the process of building the Cygnet (starting after the mechanical components are received from Toyota, of course), including how the paint work, seat assembly and interior upholstering is all done by hand. To make sure the craftsmanship point is sufficiently driven home, each stage of the Cygnet assembly is punctuated by a close-up shot of the relevant worker’s hands.

The second video depicts a woman piloting the Cygnet through Hong Kong on the way to an event. The most significant portion of the film is likely a segment in which the woman catches sight of an Aston Martin V8 Vantage and smiles, reminding the viewer that, despite the infinite number of philosophical and mechanical differences between the two vehicles, they do share a badge.

Have a look at Aston’s efforts to create air of prestige around the Cygnet below.
