Aston Martin to open Nϋrburgring engineering center

02/13/2008, 5:57 PM

By Drew Johnson

Aston Martin has announced that it will be opening an engineering test center at Germany’s NÏ‹rburgring this May. Word of the new center — which will actually be a conversion of an existing building — comes on the heels of Aston Martin announcing its first ever purpose-built design studio at the company’s Gaydon headquarters in Warwickshire.

Aston Martin uses the track to test its vehicles and the centers location should help with the development of new products. In fact, every new Aston Martin model undergoes a 10,000km sign-off test on the track before it can be put into production.

The new facility will also be used for customer activities.

“The NÏ‹rburgring has played a vital part in improving the performance and durability of all modern Aston Martins. Our new test center will allow us to further increase the performance of our cars and to share something of the unique Nordschleife experience with our customers,” Aston Martin CEO Dr Ulrich Bez said.

Hmm, guess it’s good news.

Am I the only one who’s noticed Leftlane’s had a strike of lackluster news lately?

You know why they created this center at the Ring? So they can test the DBX!

They’d test the V12 Vantage and Rapide there. Although I thought that they tested their cars at the Ring anyway…

Hmmm… it looks like the Nur it’s the benchmark testbed for high performance cars, and I mean around the track mainly, not top speed. Anyway not a bad idea. There is no doubt that the Nissan GT-R killer will be Nur badged!

10,000 Kilometers seems like nothing to me. A trucker does that in a month.

Now that ford is gone, aston has the creative freedom to build some very fast and very impressive cars! Just imagine how amazing astons would be now if Ford never had any involvement.

This is great news. Aston Martin company has suffered from a slew of owners wanting to race the cars but 1 not having the budget 2) not realizing what a race program entails. This invaribly bancrupted the company each time. Now AM has hope because there next cars will be designed with the track in mind, Prodrive is a succesful race car developer and the new owners are willing to invest money on the product.

FYI. To make a living trucker in US must drive 500-600 miles a day or 900-1000 km. They work 25 days per months.
