Aston Martin unveils new design studio

12/11/2007, 10:50 AM

By Drew Johnson

Aston Martin has unveiled its new design studio in Gaydon, Warwickshire. The new studio fits in with Aston Martins plans to increase production in the coming years. Aston Martin’s Chief executive Dr Ulrich Bez has stated that he wants output increased to 7,000 units annually to decrease waiting list times.

“I would like to supply cars to customers in a decent time,” Bez said.

Increased demand from China, Russia, South Africa and New Zealand is the driving force behind Aston Martin’s expansion.

“We want to grow, and to have higher visibility,” Dr. Bez told the BBC. “We are building the brand, we are speeding up.”

But the new design studio isn’t just intended to increase capacity. “We do not only increase our design capacity with this. We also improve our design quality,” says Dr. Bez.

If they did not get bought by pro-drive and friends I would be expecting a funeral notice for this brand. Prodrive is all about racing first and are basing all their corp strategies on the success(and few failures) of Porsche. Sounds good to me and looks like they are on the right track too.

Good. I hope they will put some quality time in setting the different models apart since they all look the same to me. Some new power plants would be nice as well. 400bhp is not going to cut it anymore in today’s world of luxurious sports cars.

^agreed man, the DB9 is a fine looking car but with 450 bhp its not enough for me. The Bentley GT now offers 600 bhp

Ford is either kiss of death or vampire: in either case it sucks any creative thinking out of brands and companies it acquires and runs. I wish they would release Volvo: use to be great car company.

I wonder if they will be able to design something new? and not just 30 different body kits and call it new.
