Another big mistake. Americans don’t want luxury sub-compacts. The A3 is pushing the envelope in size for a “luxury” car. This is way too small and crappy looking.

I’m sorry Audi but I would take a Mini Cooper S over this, especially considering how much faster it is. Of course the Mini’s mpg will be worse, but anything over 30 mpg is good for me.

Meh….imo Audi shouldn’t bring this to the US…it’s too slow. Keep the A1 in Europe. Americans want good mpg but they also want convenience, so I’m not sure if a small and slow high mpg 2 door hatch will sell here. A premium car in America isn’t associated with the words “small and slow”. One or the other might work, but not both.

Definitely better looking that the Mini. Just hope they don’t go poluting it with 50 different models like BMW have done with the Mini. Yes I know it’s not 50 different models of the Mini but give BMW enough time and they will cover every niche they can.

Audi’s managed to make it look angry from the front *and* the back. I’m not sure I want to drive a car that reminds me of a spoiled child. Does it stamp its little tires if it doesn’t get a good parking spot?

Maybe they should kill off the A3 and put this in it’s place. They could charge Mini money for it and not be competing with the A4 like the A3 tries to do in 3.2 VR6 Quattro form.

not nearly as much charm as a mini…i do like the head-on view, and the rear view – the light treatments especially – but i don’t like the side view…i’m not a huge fan of the silver accent either, but i’ve also seen pictures of the car at other sites without that effect…still, i think the car has an awkward profile at the back end, and the mini shape is more harmonious overall…and i’m admittedly not objective about it…

Nice looking, but if Audi wants to target MINI, they need to offer more HP to compete against the MINI S version, besides offering a cabriolet.

beatus.. yes, those rectangles have to be lights, since the entire taillight assembly is incorporated into the hatch and sometimes people carry things with the hatch open. I find this to be a more aesthetically pleasing approach than the ugly repeating bumper-mounted lights of the Q5 and Q7.

When did we ever see a 4-door version of this? It’s always been shown as a 3-door.. and to my eye it looks OK, if not spectacular.. though a cabriolet version should be quickly on the agenda if they truly want to target Mini.

This is a good looking little car. I like the interior design. It’s subtle, but interesting. Good job, Audi.

Not too fond of the white pillars, though. I think either the whole roof should be white, or none of it.

What are those little white rectangles in the back where the hatch lifts up? They look like lights or something.
