Audi releases info on U.S.-spec A3

04/25/2008, 9:22 AM

By Drew Johnson

Just yesterday Audi took the wraps off its updated A3 for Europe, and on Friday the German automaker revealed what is in store for the U.S.-spec car. While the A3’s styling will be almost identical in both markets, the U.S. will get the typical snuff in engine choices.

In the U.S., the A3 will be available with two engine choices — a 200 horsepower 2.0L TFSI unit or a 250 horsepower 3.2L V6.

2.0L cars will come standard with a six-speed manual while the 3.2L unit will only be available with Audi’s S-tronic dual-clutch transmission. However, the S-tronic transmission can be mated to either engine.

New for the 2009 A3, buyers will be able to order the 2.0L TFSI in all-wheel drive quattro guise, which will also use the S-tronic gearbox.

As with the previous A3, the U.S. market will only get the five-door version.

The new A3 will begin showing up in dealer showrooms this Fall, at which time pricing will be announced.

I’m going to get another one of these. Why use the word gouge? This is a quality item and worth every penny. It’s only 32k decently optioned

xyunya: there was another post between my two about a massage parlour. LLN is getting a little edit happy these days and some of the cuts are a little tough to fathom. The other day I used the full word bull**** and 10 minutes later it was changed to bs. Usually they only seem to be this anal when it comes to GM articles, so I’m at a bit of a loss to explain this one.

The way gas prices going up this days, I would opt for a diesel or 1.6 4-banger. Oh, wait, it’s not sold in North America, so screw you, Audi, I’ll be looking at MINI.

johnny, I noticed a bit of communism here as well. A lot of my posts go strait into censorship basket and some are outright castrated.

Bimmer, there is no comparo between Mini and A3. Mini definitely drivers car, especially with 37 mpg.

The addition of quattro in the 2.0L is good news but the A3 is still a Golf.

WTF AUDI
I want a quattro 2.0t A3, i got very excited, and then LLN rains on my day with “only available with S-tronic” ARE YOU SERIOUS
Give me a 6-speed manual, just because i like to get through a snowstorm and not deal with torque steer doesnt mean i want an automatic. and dont argue with me, its a god damn automatic.
