The convertible version of the forthcoming Audi A5 two-door will replace the Audi A4 cabriolet, according to Automotive News Europe. While the report is not especially surprising, it confirms Audi plans to keep its model lineup simple and logical. What’s more, it suggests the A5 range won’t be significantly more expensive than the A4 line. But replacing the A4 drop-top with the A5 poses an interesting problem: what will happen to the S4 and RS4 convertible? Both models were only recently introduced. The A5 coupe (based on the Nuvolari concept) is expected to arrive in dealerships in mid 2007, and the convertible will follow in mid 2008. Will Audi move quickly to offer S5 and RS5 models? If not, will the availability of an A5 cabriolet hurt S4 and RS4 sales? Time will tell…

Audi to me is a VW on creatine.
Except for the new RS4, it’s using steroids.

Please Audi, we need a vehicle in every possible segment from you as well. Please create new platforms and excess unique body pannels for all #’d series as well. /sarc

Although it is growing on me, the big nose and large front overhang still appear jarring.

I’m waiting for the RS5. It’ll be a pretty nice car, and will probably destroy the next-gen M3.

Oh yes, a match for Cadillac…Very much so, actually the Audi is in quite a different league: The Audi looks good, has appearance, zest and will run over the blue haired people in their Cadillacs anytime. Caddies just ain’t cool, Audies are…And I can’t afford either of them…

If the A5 is priced like the A4, will have DSG and will have its engine sitting behind the front wheels, I’ll trade my current A4 for one…

#10– Peter– “………. and will probably destroy the next-gen M3″
That is bold statement. You are talking about the ultra competitive BMW company. You are talking about a perofrmance icon. Also the current RS4 cosst about $20K more than an M3. Does that mean anything?
I guess we will have to see. We have a while to wait.

Is it the same kind of news as the “upcoming 4-series for BMW”? Cause I’m looking at new B7 Audi A4/S4 Cabriolet’s order guide right now.
