Paris preview: 2009 Audi A6

Following in the footsteps of the RS6 Sedan, Audi has revealed its updated A6 sedan. Audi’s entire A6 line will undergo an update for the 2009 model year, keeping the 5-Series rival fresh until the an all-new A6 arrives in 2011.

The facelift for 2009 focuses primarily on an update to the car’s lighting systems. The taillights have been redesigned with R8-inspired lenses, and a striking LED treatment that effectively cut through the haze of blowing snow.

The ‘09 facelift will consist of a slightly redesigned front bumper, new rectangular fog lamps and larger air-intakes left and right of the grille. The A6 will debut along side the RS6 sedan at October’s Paris Motor Show.

The new rear lights look significantly more modern than the outgoing tail-lamps. Changes to the front fascia are also in store, with a slightly revised grille and a new lower intake/fog lamp assembly providing a slightly new look.

In the back, the shape of the taillights will be modified for the sedan, and the layout of the lamps will be re-designed as well — incorporating a white stripe over almost the whole width of the units.

European engine choices will consist of six gasoline and four diesel powerplants. The gas engines will range from a 170 horsepower four-cylinder to a top 350 horsepower 4.2L V8. Audi’s new supercharged V6 will also be available.

The diesel mills will range in displacement from 2.0L to 3.0L.

Audi’s S-line package will be available on the new A6, and will feature 18 inch wheels and a sportier suspension that lowers the car’s ride height by 30mm.

Slick. The engine upgrade was much needed to compete with the 535i

Dear Audi, Please bring the diesel A6 to the US. I will buy one when it depreciates (like every A6 does). Sincerely, Vosotros.

Imo, the rear just looks like an A4 now. The taillights in the spy photos look much better.

Gotta love those LEDs though. I’ve seen them on the A4, A5 and R8 out on the road, and they are really head turning, even in the daytime.

Just the right amount of facelift before the new generation A6 arrives.
