Illustrated: 2010 Audi A8

01/15/2009, 4:05 PM

By Drew Johnson

Our spy photographers have managed to snap a few shots of Audi’s next-generation A8, but unfortunately the pictures were from long-range and not of the highest quality. However, using the latest inside scoops and spy shots, our artist have come up with an accurate illustration of what the 2010 Audi A8 will look like.

Under the new sheet metal will be an extended version of the modular platform used in the A4, but expect to see more exotic materials such as aluminum and magnesium employed to help save weight and improve dynamics.

The A8’s engine lineup will likely mirror the current range, starting with a 2.8-liter V6, and topping out 4.2-liter V8 FSI. And, possibly, Audi’s new 6.0L V12 TDI will be offered.

And like the A7, there will also be more supercharged units as well as increased application of Audi’s latest valve-lift system. The base model will remain front-wheel drive, but all-wheel drive variants will feature the latest Quattro torque vectoring systems, which distributes drive individually between each axle and between the rear wheels for improved traction and stability.

I would give more points then LS460 in looks department and even class S and series 7. But is it a better car? From driver point of view – it is the largest front wheel drive, from the point of view of the guy in the backs seat – they all are comfy.

@Borat, the A8 has Quattro AWD. Looks good but, hardly exciting.

I really don’t think this car needs a redesign… it’s one of the classiest cars on the road as it is.

Stick a color-keyed horizontal bar through the middle of that grill and you’re looking at the new Caprice. Oh wait… that would make it RWD and 1/3 the price.

I think this is a step down from the current gen, which is one of the best looking cars on the road. Too bad assholes drive Audi’s.

I don’t approve with that huge grill! That’s in the same bad taste category as a 300C with Rolls Royce grids and or blinged out Escalades…
I hope the final product will ditch that huge grill and pot some character in that car!

@ No More Oil- Overpriced Nazi crap? Audi hasn’t produced Nazi cars for a long time. It stopped when they were acquired by Daimler Benz in 58.

Not that you made that connection, you’re just saying stupid things.

This design is great, and to the yawners, what do you expect, an engine blower and a wing? That’s not what it’s supposed to be, kids.
