While most automakers are working on shrinking or maintaining their lineups, Audi is on a quest to greatly expand its product offering over the next few years. That expansion has already included the addition of the TT RS, with the distinct possibility of more vehicles based on the hottest TT’s DNA.
In an interview with Autovisie, Audi development head Michael Dick revealed the German automaker is seriously considering shoehorning the TT RS’ turbocharged five-cylinder under the hood of a RS3 model. That would give the diminutive hatchback 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque – a significant upgrade over the 261 horsepower S3.
With that much power on tap, the RS3 would likely be capable of a 0-60 run in about 5 seconds – making it tops in the segment.
Although the prospect of a 340 horsepower RS3 is quite intriguing, the hot hatch has yet to receive the green light from Audi . And even if the RS3 gets the go ahead from Audi, there is no guarantee we will see it in America. After all, we don’t even have access to the S3.
