anonymous, Audi is trying to get people to change their minds about diesels. ESPECIALLY the US market. So much attention has been brought to them because of it. The R10 is quiet, clean, and fast which is 3 characteristics diesels never had, actually the complete opposite. And if you’ve seen this car in person you would know how sweet it sounds

not a knock on diesels, but it really is a different category/class.
They should race in their own class to keep the comp. equal as possible.

On the side bar, if you mess around with dangerous animals that way long enough, eventually the odds have a chance of playing out against you.

Arrived late in this discussion – the louder noise of diesel? The R10 is spookily quiet which has earned it a lot of criticism from die-hards who like their noise.

oh yeah the dyson was only 2 seconds behind the audi when it won, and it was leading in the beginning of the race, until capello made a clean move

so what, the dysons pulled the fastest laps of 1:07, while the r10 was getting 1:09s, the dysons also handled better, they just didnt have the straight line speed. and thats where the diesel engine comes into play… 800lb/ft torque!!

anonymous is right. They where allowed bigger engine and more boost but are now thinking of making it the same to even out the rules

They didn’t find a gap in the rules, ACO takes in the ass for OEM’s. The diesel Audi is a joke, it gets the biggest engine and most boost to make less horsepower then the R8.

Peugeot is currently developing a diesel to win in Le mans but their diesels ain’t exactly the best. The only companies which can beat them are Mercedes-Benz and BMW. But both these companies Know that its better to compete in Formula 1 as you get more competition and more worldwide coverage. The reward are much higher as well as costs.

After BMW M3 GTR V8 won LeMans, next season because of complaints from Porsche they’ve changed the rules. I wonder if Porcs will complain again?

Maybe they should go with bio-diesel or Ethanol for F1, I’ve heard talk about that Stuart.
Why doesn’t someone else with a large amount of funding come out with a diesel or something to compete instead of changing the rules? Rule changes aren’t uncommon, but I think they should try to beat the technology Audi has instead of changing the rules to beat it. Of course they had found a gap in the rules for diesels, and it was aloud so then again maybe they should change the rules. We shall see

I wasn’t really revolutionery seeing as diesel has been known to be able to easily compete with petrol in the last few years. The only difference being the louder noise, double the amount of torque and better economy. It was a matter of time that some european country used it in motorsport. They are even considering it for Formula 1

“Crikey!” too bad he’s dead now…
Anyways back on subject. It’s good that Audi is excersizing a good technology (diesels) because most people think of diesels as slow and underdeveloped. It’s no suprise that the R10 is on a non-beatable winning streak, diesels have gobs of torque for acceleration and top speed, and diesels are known for their reliability.
