Audi equips UK-spec A5 with 1.8L TFSI engine

10/12/2007, 4:20 PM

By Drew Johnson

Audi has announced that its front-drive A5 coupe will be available in the UK with a turbo-charged 1.8L TFSI engine — the same powerplant used in the A3, A4, A6 and TT models. Output is up to about 170 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque, good for a 0-62 time of 8.4 seconds and a top speed of 140 mph.

Four-cylinder variants of the A5 will be available with the same list of options that can be had on V6 models — including a leather interior, three-zone climate control and rear parking sensors. While the four-cylinder model doesn’t offer the performance of the V6 model, it does return an impressive 39.8 mpg in the combined cycle test.

Prices for the A5 1.8 TFSI start at £26,190 with UK dealers taking orders now. Deliveries of the car are expected to begin in November.

8.4 sec is good enough for driving in LA freeways but the real bonus is the mileage.

oh wow! its FWD?!?!!? who in their right mind would pick this over a RWD BMW or MB? especially with that tiny engine.. guess all of us who were wondering who would buy the new CLK have our answers.. its everyone who is NOT buying this A5..

atourya: slow and beautiful does not equal money well spent. give me an infiniti g37 and ill use the $10k i saved on gas and speeding tickets..

fools, audi will never make RWD cars, instead they will base with FWD platforms and really shine with rear-biased AWD. The whole reason the A5 platform is so different is because the front axle is pushed way ahead of the engine for better weight distribution and a lower front overhang because the chief over at VW refused the lower-downs cries to create a RWD platform. So what did they do? They created the best AWD platform available, albeit a FWD one. What i dont understand is how my 2.0t GLI is governed at 130mph and this can do 140.
