There’s a lot of news of news out of Audi lately: from the announcement of the R8 super car to the latest rumors regarding the A5 coupe. Now, Auto Zeitung is reporting that Audi is in the early developmental stage for a model that could be named Q3. This small offroader is thought to share “technology” with the VW Marrakesch, which is planned for 2007. (The Marrakesch is a 4×4 vehicle based on the Golf platform transversely mounted engine.) To set the Q3 apart from this Golf SUV as well as the related four-wheel-drive Skoda Yeti (also to debut in 2007), it will be launched as a “dynamic, sporty” 3-door SUV. According to its Audi-internal label “AU 366″, the Q3 will likely be based on the sixth generation VW/Audi platform 3. This seems to indicate that the Q3 will be launched after the introduction of the successor of the current Audi A3, which is said to be introduced (as a 3-door coupe/hatch) during the summer of 2009. Audi is also said to be planning a Q5 crossover SUV.

Awesome! I’ve been wanting to see the Steppenwolf in show rooms since the first time they showed the concept. Too bad it is sooooo far off. My Z3 coupe has 106k miles on it, and I don’t know if I can get 3 more years out of it.
