Audi posts best ever sales figures

07/05/2007, 11:46 AM

By Andrew Ganz

German automaker Audi sold 509,000 cars in the first six months of 2007, its best six-month sales figure ever and a 9.8 percent increase over the previous year. Interestingly, Audi’s biggest sales jump was in Russia, where 7,272 four-ringed German cars wound up in Russian garages in the six month period, a 76.3 percent increase over 2006.

Audi is gunning for 1 million cars sold in ‘07, a hefty increase over record-breaking ‘06 when it sold 905,000 cars.

That’s a good thing, Audi is, I think, a very innovative brand, they make good cars and the sales are indicative of that and their rising popularity. I prefer BMW’s personally except in the case of the A8, which is a far better car than the 7-Series, but Audi’s are still damn fine cars.

could it be their new high end models, the S and RS?

It’s got to be something more than the S and RS, I would think. A 9.8% increase from last year’s sales means about another 45,000 cars. I’m sure that’s considerably more volume that Audi’s total S and RS line. And that sales figure is without the new A5 line hitting the market, and without an entire year of the Q7, I think. Plus, in the U.S., it’s been some time since Audi offered the free service while the vehicle is under warranty. Just goes to show you that Audi’s doing a lot of things right.
I agree, Lamboz, that the A8 is a far better car than the 7-series, but I think that dominance continues on down the line. The styling of Bangle-era and post-Bangle era cars irritates me the most, although the CS concept is a step in the right direction, except I *hate* the headlamp eye-lid-like covers on the concept. They just cheapen the look to me.

Get Real

Websites and Auto Magazines have been pushing Audi a lot this year, no wonder sales are up.

How much $$$$ are they getting for pushing Audi ??

GM and Ford need to match this payoff money.

Oh okay… haven’t been following the numbers as of late, so i thought in the previous June 07 sales figures that audi was down. Apparently not… i guess they also serve as a good anti-bimmer as well. So many bimmers on the road (especially in the OC area where i work) that people who want german go audi because everyone else has a bmw.

This news about Audi posting the best ever sales figures is interesting considering that in the United States, their sales went down for the month. Having said that, I love Audi and this is coming from a BMW owner. I will look carefully at the S5.

In US everything is about bling bling and pure sport not elegance which is what Audi is about.

Audi appeals to my mature half.
They’re worth it just for the pure joy of touching the finely made buttons and knobs.
They put a fine finish even on the backs and undersides of things you’d never actually see.
In other words, the antithesis of American made.

norby413, actually their buttons creaks after about 2 years or so. Audi’s interior is great to look and as far as they’re not moving, all is fine. Can’t say the same about the knobs and switches though. Though there are certain things about them that makes them so unique such as the unique sound of the door lock and such. Little details that others didn’t care to pay attention to unless you’re paying for an S class or 7 series…

Well designed and excellent fit/finish. People see that, they buy. No magic formula.

Toyota goes the other way and they’re beating everyone to profitability. Beautiful design doesn’t mean **** when it comes to making sales numbers.

Its the A3,A4 A6 sales, higher end models account for maybe 5% of their sales(A8/S8, RS4),. Mostly A3 and A4’s for the quick sale and steady family sales A4/A6. Audi is like the new BMW so past bimmer owners are jumping ship since Audi is the alternative Sport German brand. And the new Audi is Volvo. The scandanvians are not far behind, you’ve already got 500bhp S40’s and 613bhp S60R’s in the US. Although I see Audiphiles becoming displeased with Audis convservative bimmer lines already.

Audis are great cars until you need to sell them for inevitable mechanical issues and you find out you can’t get 15% of the purchase price after 4 years. OUCH!

As long as there are rich asians who prefer MB and Rolex for their status symbol, yea it’ll reign supreme.

Audis are pretty cars but not great unless your under warr or you love to tinker and fix your own car. The A3’s are already having serious issues with DSG, and electrical gremlins. And even RS4 owners are having weird engine problems. Hopefully Audi is learning since the 1.8T timing belt tensioner issue, and the oil line sludge issue.
