Almost lost amid all of the concept cars and new model introductions at the Detroit show was Audi’s announcement that the Q3 crossover will finally make its way to America.

The compact Q3, which will be positioned under the Q5, is set to go on sale in late 2013 as a 2014 model. As with Euro-spec Q3s, it will be built by Seat in Spain.

Notably, the Q3 will be offered in America with the same basic turbocharged inline-five found under the hood of the Audi TT RS. Rather than the 340 horsepower it produces in the TT RS, expect the engine put out something in the neighborhood of the Q3 Vail concept’s 314 horsepower 295 lb-ft of torque. A version of VW Group’s ubiquitous 2.0-liter turbo four is a possibility as an entry-level motor.

Audi also has plans to expand its crossover lineup with a rival to the BMW X6 and could also potentially produce a competitor to BMW’s upcoming X4 crossover coupe.
