The Q5 will be available with six drivetrains for 2013, including three diesels and a new hybrid option.
Audi will also offer the 2013 Q5 with a 177 horsepower, 280 lb-ft of torque version of the 2.0 TDI. The up-rated model will come standard with Audi's S tronic seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. The 177 horsepower model is rated at 39mpg.
For those that want all-out speed to go along with their fuel economy, the 2013 Q5 will also be available with Audi's 245 horsepower, 428 lb-ft of torque 3.0 TDI diesel V6. Audi says the Q5 3.0 TDI can sprint from 0-62 in just 6.5 second while still delivering fuel-economy of 37mpg.
A 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder remains as the Q5's standard gas engine for 2013, but horsepower has increased by 14 to 225. Torque remains unchanged at 258 lb-ft. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard on the 2.0 TFSI while an eight-speed auto is optional.
A gas V6 remains on the Q5's option list for 2013, but Audi has swapped out its aging 3.2L for its latest supercharged 3.0 TFSI engine. That mill puts out 272 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, capable of rocketing the Q5 from 0-62 in 5.9 seconds. The Q5 3.0 TFSI is offered exclusively with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission, returning 27mpg.
The 2013 Q5 range will also include a new hybrid model. The Q5 hybrid quattro will use Audi's 211 horsepower 2.0 TFSI four-cylinder, with an electric motor contributing another 54 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Shifting through a modified version of Audi's eight-speed automatic gearbox, the Q5 hybrid can scoot from 0-62 in 7.1 second.
A compact lithium-ion battery pack provides an all-electric range of 1.86 miles at a constant speed of 37mph. The Q5 can hit a top speed of 62mph in EV mode.
Audi says the Q5 quattero hybrid will have a combined fuel economy rating of 34mpg.
So far Audi isn't saying which Q5 models will be sold on these shores, but expect our options to be limited to the two gas-powered models and the hybrid.
Styling
Although not a major overhaul, Audi has graced the Q5 with fresh styling for the 2013 model year. Up front the utility vehicle gets revised headlights with a new pattern for its LED running lights. Audi has also fitted the 2013 Q5 with a new grille and a revised bumper.
Those front-end tweaks are mirrored out back with the Q5 now sporting new-look LED taillights and an updated diffuser.
The Q5's interior has also been refined, including new chrome trim on the controls, revised steering column control stalks and updated instruments. Audi has also improved the Q5's MMI infotainment system with four new buttons.
Look for the 2013 Audi Q5 to arrive in showrooms later this summer.
