Audi unveils 2010 Q7

04/14/2009, 7:09 PM

By Drew Johnson

The Audi Q7 has only been on the market for a couple of years now, but the German automaker has officially revealed an updated version of its biggest utility vehicle. The 2010 Q7 sports only mild revisions, with tweaks to the SUV’s front and rear fascias, as well as an updated interior.

The 2010 Q7 features new headlight clusters, complete with the LED treatment that is spreading throughout Audi’s lineup. The ’10 model also sports a new front bumper.

Out back it’s a similar story, with new LED taillights, a revised bumper and a reshaped tailgate to accommodate all shapes of world license plates. Audi has also added two new colors for the 2010 model – Teak Brown and Graphite Gray – as well as new design wheels.

Inside the 2010 Q7 receives more wood accents, ambient door lighting and Audi’s third-generation MMI navigation system, featuring 3D navigation and joystick control.

The Q7’s powerplants will carry over unchanged, although the European market will see a more fuel-efficient version of the ‘ute’s 4.2L TDI V8, now achieving 23.8 mpg U.S. on the combined cycle.

The 2010 Q7 will begin rolling into Audi dealerships this fall, with pricing slated to be announced closer to launch.

You mean the ones where the LEDs shut off when the turn signal comes on, leaving the numerous A3 and A4 models I’ve seen looking c.ockeyed in the middle of an intersection? Weird.

I’ll be laughing at the guy who buys this thing, and then has to clean all the bugs off the front the next morning after a long drive to Northern Michigan in the summer!

Enjoy your new grill… I’ll stick to the MDX!

dood have u ever seen the LEDs up close? they have to shut off when the turn sig comes on cuz they are so bright. the turn signal bulb is not an LED so to somebody without acute vision it would just get lost in the brightness

the tiger was badass. way ahead of it’s time. the q7 not so much. i’m a huge audi fan, but i can’t get past the mercedes r looking arched geometry as seen from the side. the windows should have followed the roofline a little closer. lowering the horizon of the greenhouse just makes it look sooo long. pick a higher or lower price-point and go with the toureg or cayenne instead.

@zoomzoomer – I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Audi driver use their turn signals, but it’s understandable that they designed the A4 and others that way. Luckily this new Q7 has the turn signals pretty far from the headlights so I doubt the headlight running light LEDs will need to turn off for the turn signals.

Audi needs to integrate similar technology into the front LED’s like they have on the euro market Jetta and Passat, where the rear LED’s change from red to amber when the turn signal is activated. Surely they can create a similar effect, even if they have to add a second set of amber LED’s in the housing.

Since Audi hasn’t restyled a vehicle in 8 years due to the incompetence of their designers they are just slapping LEDs in every nook and cranny and calling it advancement.

Audi used to be innovative in technology – now their cars look like the cheapy lighting aisle at Home Depot.

Dear Audi,

If you want to sell more Q7s stop attacking Lexus RX owners. Instead, you should have designed an SUV that looks like an SUV (see: RX) and not a minivan (see: Q7), while also working on that resale value. That is the only reason RXs sell so well – it’s just big enough and it has a strong resale value, period.

Yours truly,

RX Hybrid Owner

PS:
Can someone explain to my why this wagon/minivan shape ever became ‘popular’? Cadillac SRX, Buick Enclave, Audi Q7, etc… good looking vehicles except for the fact that the wheelbase/length is 10 inches longer than it should be.

lol darkom. I’m not a huge Audi fan, but I love their new commercials. If you want to make your car look good, park next to a gold RX. I’m sure the RX is a perfectly good Camry wagon with a friendlier service department, but like someone here has previously written, it has the “I have arrived but I don’t really know what I want in life” reputation. And looking like an egg is not SUV-like. Toyota’s lack of style is their biggest weakness and Audi is going after it. The Q5 in Audi’s commercial is a great looking SUV. The Q7 is a little big, but that’s so it can fit 7 passengers, which most soccer moms need. And really aren’t all these SUV’s are chick cars who refuse to drive more practical minivans? Audi may not be successful in this ad campaign (they haven’t been successful with the Q7 yet), but I like that they are trying to help the modern mom be more stylish and less concerned about “resale value”. I mean, come on, do you hear how boring you sound.

lexus rx…one of the most boring things on 4 wheels!! it looks like an upside down bathtub!! Of course you are going to hate all other cars, you drive a lexus!!! A lexus is an old mans car. An audi is a younger persons car. I’ll take the audi!

HAHAHA DARKOM, you’re funny.. the RX looking like an SUV… yeah alright… hahahahaha
The reason the RX sells so well is cause soccer moms love it. It’s just like Pogs or Pokemon for bland old people, it’s a “me-too” fad, just a station wagon jacked up a few inches with a boring V6 and now with disgusting styling on the 2010 model. Someones cranky that Audi took a stab at you with the Q5 commercials.

I have no brand loyalty. My wife drives and RX and I drive an ‘07 Denali. If I like anything Audi produced I’d buy it.

The Q5 competes with the X3… they both look like baby, compact SUVs, compared to the RX which is the ideal shaped, mid-sized SUV. These over extended, bloated station wagon/minivan looking “SUVs” are down right ugly.
