German luxury car maker Audi earlier today announced pricing for its 2009 A4 and A4 Avant equipped with the new 2.0-liter direct-injected and turbocharged four cylinder. The MSRP for the front-wheel drive sedan will be $32,700, while the all-wheel drive station wagon will cost $34,500.
Customer cars will start arriving at dealerships in September of 2008, with some Audi dealers getting demonstration examples for customers to test drive by the week of August 10.
The all-new models will feature more standard features, and when equipped with the 2.0TFSI and Quattro all-wheel drive system, will return better fuel economy than competitors, said Johan de Nysschen, Audi of America’s executive vice president.
While an optional 3.2-litter V6 engine with direct injection will be available in the sedan only, Audi has not revealed the pricing of that model. It will be significantly higher than the FWD 2.0TFSI price of entry however, as it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive system exclusively.
The Avant (wagon) will only be available with the turbo four-cylinder and Quattro all-wheel drive.
The 2.0TFSI engine is rated at 211 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque, and EPA fuel economy of 21mpg in the city and 27mpg on the highway when installed in the manual-transmission, front-wheel drive A4 sedan.

I’m a big fan of the new look, but does the sedan really have to be that big? I mean it’s grown by 5 freaking inches. That’s like almost as big as an A6.. sorry but that’s just too big in my opinion.

Audi’s look nice and all, but in the end its still a FWD 4 cylinder…sorry, that’s not the formula for building a premium car, and its not worth a premium price. Shoulda bought a BMW instead.

It may be a turbo 4 fwd but for now thats helpin them gain a slight edge as far as MPG (not by much but its an edge) plus RWD is great and all but its more aimed at performance, and as most know audi isn’t so much your performance luxo, its more of your cruiser, which is why the interiors in my opinion tend to be nicer than most.but in the end you’re right most will opt for the BMW, performance and lux

Eh, the FWD isn’t a big deal in everyday driving, plus if you want a sportier feel just go for quattro, the new quattro with the 3rd gen torsen is surprisingly agile for a non-bmw, lol.

That little 2 liter FSI is a genius engine. I have to give VAG(ina) credit for their engineers, it’s a fast and economical. Does the quattro come with the 2 liter or that old ****ty 3.2 V6?

I think this A4 is over price. I think all the Audi models are overpice, I don’t understand to this concept at all. When compare to Benz, Bmw and Lexus. With all do respect, I think all other luxury brand are better car than Audi. For example when compare A8 to 750, S550 and LS 460 or S4 to M3, c63 and IsF. Or maybe, I don’t know much about Audi…

umm even i think that $32k is a bit much… this is a huge jump in price and the A4 should have stayed under $30k for a base one. It was even too expensive before.. a GLI is the exact same car for thousands less.

and the S4 is not comparable to the M3/C63, the RS4 is, and with the previous generation M3, it stood in the middle of the S4 and RS4.

with the rising cost of raw materials and the addition of whatever they added you couldn’t have expected it to stay under 30 k for long. Bmw’s the same way, 3 series used to cost a few grand less than what they go for brand new now

DeansterTJ: I agree with you. That little 4-banger is much superior to the 6-pot they have. I would imagine that you’ll be able to get the 2.0TFSI with quattro I mean they have that same setup right now on their 08 models and I don’t see why they’d change it.

The people who are talking about the too high prices, have to consider that Audi is build in Europe and while the Dollar isn’t worth anything nowadays, it’s easy to see why they are expensive in your American opinion. You have to consider that this model is sold for the same price in Euros in Germany. It should have cost (€32k x 1,55 $/€) well over $50k in the US included shipping it overseas.
This is also the reason why so many European carcompanys are planning to build a factory in the US.

I’m pretty sure the 2.0T will come with Quattro and that the 3.2 will be the new 3.2 that’s available in the A5 with 265hp. Looking forward to the 2.0T with 211hp and 258ft/lbs of torque. Hopefully they take care of some of the viabration that haunted the previous version.

You guys are ****ing retarded. First off the price has actually DECREASED from the previous model if you are comparing similarly equipped models. Second of all, I have driven this car EXTENSIVELY side by side with the BMW 3 series, Merc C-Class and Lexus IS, and NONE of them even come close to touching the new A4. When this vehicle is released next month, it will be THE BEST VALUE on the market. Period.

JonM is right, plus did anyone actaully read that the base car wil come with more content than the previous model? Try finding any dealer that has a base 3-series for sale, since no one in their right mind would spend that much for a car and get vinyl non-heated seats and a wimpy stereo. Also, have you price complainers priced out a new Passat? Enough said.
One more thing…I like the new size, since being over 6′ rules out 3-series, C-class, and the old A4 if you ever want anyone to sit behind you. This could be a great family car, with decent mileage and some nice styling.

This is terrible because I love Audi to death but honestly why buy this when u can fork over 34k for an Infiniti G35S and be way happier. I mean in the G u get 305hp/300tq and 0-60 in 5.3 with paddle shifters, plus nav and all that garbage that nobody needs. My point is the performance of the Audi at this price point is just lackluster to be honest…

HAHA^ w/e dude. “Real german engineering,” is that what you call it when the GT-R, a measly japanese V6, beats every single thing that Merc, BMW, and Audi have to throw at it on the ‘Ring? Did you know that even Porsche, the best of the German manufacturers put their famed GT2 with its mighty 530 horsepower onto the ‘Ring using semi-slicks and it still lost to the GT-R by 3 whole seconds!

I’m with jonmiles on this one… once you’ve driven a decent German (or other European) vehicle, you won’t go back to Japanese cars anytime soon.
In 1999, I gave up 45 HP to pass on a Honda Prelude and buy an A4. 160K later, I still don’t have a single complaint about my decision… and I got the HP (+ even more torque) back with a simple ECU upgrade.
I’m not knocking Japanese cars here… they’re fine for many. I just don’t want to drive fine… I want to drive fantastic.
