Audi looks set to deliver a drop-top version of its blistering RS5. Its secret plans were spoiled through the leaking of digital sketches, which have found their way on to the Internet.
Audi recently unveiled the revised 2012 RS5 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, but had not let slip any plans for additional model variant. The latest com-gen images and trademark filings suggest that the convertible model is real; however, details about its launch and which markets it might make to have not yet been uncovered.
It is expected to be powered by the same drivetrain as the RS5, which means it will likely get the same hi-po naturally aspirated V8 that delivers 450 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. However, given that convertibles are well known and inherent issues with chassis rigidity, it would not be surprising to find the that V8 could be slightly de-tuned when it arrives.
The RS5 convertible is also likely to inherit the Ingolstadt company’s high tech S-Tronic dual-clutch gearbox, which will give owners the opportunity to potter around in full-automatic mode or switch to its highly responsive manual-mode, paddle shift system.
Based on the leaked images, it would also appear that the RS5 convertible will also comfortably accommodate four adult occupants and will use the same power electric folding soft top as utilized on the Audi A5 and S5.
