2010 Audi RS5 shows its retractable wing [Spied again]

05/08/2009, 10:31 AM

By Drew Johnson

Audi’s monster RS5 coupe has shown up once again, this time looking more production ready than the mules we saw several months ago. These photos also reveal that the RS5 will have a trunk lid spoiler that rises automatically at higher speeds.

Up front, this RS5 has a sportier front fascia with two massive air intakes on either side of the grille. Adorning the axles are 20-inch, triple spoke wheels with large, cross-drilled rotors in front and regular rotors in back. A larger, production rear bumper is also on this prototype. That bumper is housing two enormous, oval exhaust pipes — a standard on all RS models.

While there have been many rumors suggesting a V10 lurks under the hood, we have a pretty good tip that says it’s actually a V8. More specifically, it is a heavily worked over version of Audi’s 4.2L V8 tuned to produce somewhere in the neighborhood of 470 horsepower.

Watch for the RS5 debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in the fall of 2009.

I’m not a fan of enhanced/photoshopped pictures without showing the originals side-by-side.

OH EM EFFING GEE this is sex. it looks mean and i love it. A4, Audi is trying to position the A5 line to be special from the rest of their line up(for some odd reason ) so putting an engine in it other than the one in the rs4 wouldnt be totally off base but you’re probably right a massaged version of the beastly rs4 engine will most likely make its way under the hood

I’m finally beginning to get this car. I followed one for awhile the other week (probably made the poor guy nervous being tailed in a Neon) and the lines are starting to grow on me. Too bad they’re going to f*ck it up with that sedan…err sorry, 4 door coupe.

Now this is a car for a real man. (Women too if they like, no hate.)

It has power, it has a badge with solid history, it has style in such excess it’s dripping all over the pavement.

The price will most likely be a kick in the nuts, but it’s a car that seems worth it.

Gorgeous, and not too over the top.

idrinorbarsaku,
It pops at high speed so that’s why it has it, purpose isn’t the same of adding downforce to accelerate.
