Spied Again: Audi RS5

August21

Yesterday afternoon in the American southwest desert, our spy phtographers spotted an almost entirely undisguised Audi RS5 high-performance coupe. Aside from the absence of oval tailpipes - which would make any efforts of hiding what it is entirely null and void - this is the 2010 Audi RS5.

It still remains unclear just what motor is under the hood, but the latest rumors suggest a 4.0 liter turbocharged TFSI V8 putting out an impressive 470 horsepower. The RS5 will certainly challenge the BMW M6. Though we don’t know any specifics on an estimated debut, we would estimate that it will show up soon at an auto show and be on sale late Spring or early Summer 2009 as a 2010 model.

  4. ^lol.

I really doubt this is an RS5… most likely they are doing engine testing or working on a A5/S5 facelift. Where are the wide fenders??

  5. Oh no, not again, here it comes… ugly! overpriced! dude, I’m just curious, what car do you drive? or what car brand do you think have a good designs? Every Audi related news you’re there always bashing even cool looking Audi cars like the R8, WTF?

  6. Nothing about that car say RS except a different lower front bumper.

Audi RS models are typically built every 3-5 years and only 1 model at a time. If there is a RS6, which is confirmed for the EU market, there is no reason according to Audi history to think this car will be on sale next year.

How about some facts to back up the “news” around here.

  9. Needs flared fenderslike the previous gen RS4/RS6 to really differentiate it. What you have there looks like an A5 that some Audi fanboi put an ugly kit on.

  10. Audi needs to come off their high horse and come out with something with their good engineering that isnt’ a sports luxury vehicle. I’m sorry but if your trying to compete with bmw, your going to loose.

  11. I’m not convinced this can’t be the RS5. The RS6 is out in Europe, and the A5/S5/RS5 is a close derivative.

  16. I think the current S5 is one of the best looking, non exotic cars on the market…how can any one say this is ugly?

  17. Hmmm… I really think they should go for a rear-wheel drive car for once. I mean, a nicely rear-biased quattro is cool and all, but if they wanna compete with the M3 they’re gonna need a rear-drive car for the enthusiast in all of us… who can afford it. Don’t get me wrong, Audi is making a decent car, but BMW knows what they’re doing and Audi should take the hint.

  19. Just because Audi has not fitted wide fenders to this prototype, doesn’t mean it’s not the RS 5. After all, this is a prototype and not a real thing. Not fitting wheel arch flares and a bodykit could be disguise.

I also recall reading somewhere that Audi would start to build more than one RS model at a time, to increase sales.

  20. The current S5 is one heck of a good looking coupe - place it side by side with its competitors, the BMW 3-series coupe and Mercedes-Benz CLK-class and the A5/S5 just looks a class above both in style and design.

  21. What is with the riceboy front bumper? I prefer the front to look more subtle. To me this bumper looks like aftermarket rice. The grille and air openings are way too large.

  22. The front is too square.

It should be more rounded like the R8.

    Fail.
