Follow up: Audi to unveil production, concept car at Detroit show

12/20/2007, 9:50 AM

By Drew Johnson

Audi has announced that it will be unveiling one production car and one concept at next month’s Detroit Auto Show. Audi failed to mention which models the reveal would include — saying only that it would feature a “world first” and a “stunning concept car” — but the German automaker is expected to unveil a convertible version of its R8 sports car and take the wraps off of its TT-S. It still remains a possibility — although unlikely — that Audi could bring a V10-powered version of its R8 to the show.

Details on the convertible R8 remain scarce — not even a prototype has been spotted — but a rendering of the vehicle was reportedly distributed to a select number of press outlets a few weeks ago.

A version of the TT-S was spotted earlier this year and will be powered by a version of the S3’s 2.0L turbo-four — outputting between 265 and 300 horsepower.

i can’t see the r8 as a convertible. in fact, most of the cars don’t look good as convertibles. i hate the lp640 convertible, the zonda, the ccx…they don’t look “natural convertibles”, must be the targa top.

convertibles are so girls can stand up with out their shirts off, so they work targa or not

only good-looking women should be allowed to drive convertibles. Or, as they’re called in Germany, “cabriolet.”

That’s exactly what I was thinking jonmiles. The Ferrari 430 Spyder looks great as a convertible. Just as good as the coupe I’d say. If the R8 looks that good then I say good for Audi. Unfortunately with how it currently looks with that two tone style exterior I say the coupe makes the car. So I don’t know how a convertible version would look to even judge it. On another note It’s about time Audi put some power into their TT. I think a little more HP is what the Audi TT needs for it to really beat the cars in it’s segment. 300hp, AWD, and light weight it’ll have my vote.

im guessing that one of them will be an R8 in either roadster form or with a V10 rocket strapped to the back, perhaps even both : a V10 R8 roadster. As for the “world first” concept i have no idea
