Audi has announced the next-generation of its MMI 3G infotainment system will bow this fall in its all-new Q5 SUV. Co-developed with Harman/Becker Automotive Systems, the system promise to be smoother and more user-friendly than Audi’s current generation of electronics.
At the heart of the new system is a high-performance NVIDIA® graphics processor that will ensure smooth transitions off the vehicle’s GPS system. The system will also feature a three-dimensional landscape view that reproduces true-to-scale terrain and photorealistic depiction of points of interest. Corporate logos will also be part of the package, which, although annoying, is probably a sign of the times.
In addition to upgraded navigation, the next-generation of MMI will also include iPod and other external device connectivity, Bluetooth and satellite radio.
The technology will first appear in the Q5, but look for it to quickly spread throughout Audi ’s lineup.
