Audi to delay launch of 3 SUVs

09/24/2007, 8:19 AM

By Drew Johnson

Audi will delay the launch of three new SUVs models until 2009, a new report finds. The three models — which include the Q5 and diesel and hybrid variants of the Q7 SUV — will be delayed primarily for marketing reasons. Originally slated for a third quarter 2008 introduction, Audi feels the three new SUV could get lost among year end sales drives if released then.

Although yet to be seen, the Q5 will take on the BMW X3 and upcoming Mercedes GLK. A diesel version of the Q7 will be equipped with a 3.0L V6 producing 230 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, with the hybrid using a 260 horsepower V6. Source say all three vehicles will make their debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show, with sales — as 2010 models — starting shortly after.

NO, this means there is excess stock lying around unsold. This market is WAY oversaturated – there’s just too much xxxx cluttering this segment, between BMW, MB’s 10 models, and all of LAnd Rover’s crap.

They just spend all that money on R&D for these new SUV models. I find it hard to believe they will not release them. Indeed there is a great deal of SUV’s out there. If they want to make sure they get a piece of the pie, the models they do release better be fuel effecient…big time.

deanster is right…there probally is a overstock of what they have and what other mfg’s have in stock. my industry does the same thing. they probably want to sell out of what they have before introducing a new model to market

When will the V-12 TDI Q7 make it over here? Probably never!

It’s got everything: 500hp + 20+mpg = high performance, environmentally friendly Luxury SUV. Unfortunately, North America’s low appetite for diesels and strict emission regulations are killing our chances of getting the Uber-Q7.
