The world may be waiting for Audi to unveil an all-new version of its TT sports car in 2014, but the German automaker is still looking to improve the current version of the car. Audi has unveiled all-out performance version of the current TT at the Geneva Motor Show.
Called the TT RS plus, the model essentially does exactly what its name implies – take the performance of the RS model a step further.
Power for the TT RS plus is provided by a 360 horsepower, 343 lb-ft of torque version of Audi’s turbocharged 2.5L five-cylinder engine. A keen eye will note that those are the exact same figures as the U.S.-spec TT RS, but those numbers are increases of 20 horsepower and 11 lb-ft of torque over the European version of the car.
Shifting duties are handled by either a six-speed manual or seven-speed S tronic semi-automatic transmission, with power sent to all-four wheels via Audi’s quattro all-wheel drive system.
In order to improve the car’s overall performance and fuel economy, Audi shaved about 100 pounds from the TT RS’ waistline. The TT RS plus checks in at a lean-for-the-day 3,196 pounds.
Audi says TT RS plus can hit 60 from a standstill in as little as 4.1 seconds, with the car topping out at 173mph. Despite that performance, the TT RS plus returns better than 27mpg.
The TT RS plus is visually set apart from the standard car by a unique front grille, black exhaust outlets and 19-inch “Rotor” design alloy wheels.
The TT RS plus package will be available on both coupe and roadster models, but it remains unknown if Audi will offer the trim level in the U.S.
The TT RS plus coupe will list from 60,650 euros in Europe, with the convertible variant starting from 63,500 euros. Look for the Audi TT RS plus to hit the market in the coming weeks.
