Audi won’t build TT Shooting Brake

01/24/2007, 10:59 AM

By admin

German luxury brand Audi has decided against producing a Shooting Brake (sport wagon) version of its new TT sports car. Audi used the Shooting Brake concept car at the 2005 Tokyo Auto Show to preview the design of the new TT coupe and roadster.

Although production of the wagon was considered, Audi opted against it. In an interview with Dutch auto magazine AutoVisie, Audi’s concept car director Ulrich Hackenberg said the sports wagon would only cannibalize sales of the coupe, without adding many new customers.

What a disappointment as it had a lot of marketability in the States. Sad.

Please refer to……….Chrysler likely to discontinue Jeep Commander.

Good move. It doesn’t make much sense from a business standpoint.

This is the first time that I have ever heard about them building an SB so I am not dissapointed. It would be a nice alternative to a Z4 though.

As huge fan of three-door hatches, in smaller automobiles (starting with one of my MGB-GT’s), I liked what Audi was touting versus BMW, and others. Audi simply has the best interiors/dashboards in the world.

That really bites. I was really looking forward to that car. I can see how it wouldn’t make sense from a business standpoint though.

Syrax — “i don’t think the 135 gonna be that big deal…”

Why would it not be?

A small hatchback with a massively underrated 300 hp twin-turbo inline-six, RWD,and built by the BMW.

Sounds like a big deal to me

as far as 135? no AWD no care, good track car but poor all-weather capability.

Shame, but understandable. The same could be said for the BMW Z4 coupe, I bet.

agreed. Although I like the Z4 coupe, and love the shooting break, I don’t think it would have done much to attract buyers that wouldn’t otherwise buy a car from that brand.

More raving about miserable, unreliable German garbage it seems. I know plenty of people here are going to be celebrating one less of them on the roadways.

How long till we see the new Malibu and CTS?

Sorry to hear they won’t build it.. but hopefully this makes room in Audi’s US lineup for a slightly roomier, similarly styled coupe.. the A3 3-door! With the same engines, the A3 would be a more comparable rival to the BMW 1-series anyway. Unfortunately, this may also mean the Scirocco will end up with this roofline :(

Not saying that GM makes bad cars or anything…just your opinions are way too biased so I think you are working for them. If you aren’t working for them, then I am actually scared of you.

gyourdumb — I never mind driving in the rain in high horsepower RWD cars. Its raining so you have to be careful. They drive F1 cars in the rain. Never a problem. You have to have good tires though.

RWD is so much more fun and satisfying than AWD. I’ve had both. No contest.

RWD forever!

Pathetic americans can’t admit defeat…lol.
I’ll admit defeat for us. You are the bigger manufacter spec nerd. Stop arguing on the internet cause you make a complete ass of yourself. For example, “Renton–It does rain in Texas. 300 hp turbo RWD in the rain sux vs AWD.” I dont think renton was arguing its all weather capabilities, but the beast it is. I’ll hate ferrari forever cause it isn’t capable as an AWD car is in the rain.

Yea, I have to side with Renton on this one. RWD is certainly more fun and satisfying to drive. Though I usually feel more assured to push a car to its limits with the Quattro. Dunno about AWD systems that has more rear wheel bias though. Haven’t got a chance to try one yet.

discontinued because it would “cannabalise sales from new customers huh?” Yeah maybe, or perhaps its because VW are going to build it as the IROC…
