Audi RS Q8 to borrow Porsche Panamera's hybrid V8 powertrain?

The Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid features 680 horsepower and a 3.2-second launch to 60 mph.

Audi's upcoming RS Q8 will reportedly be the brand's most powerful vehicle, borrowing a hybrid V8 powertrain from sister marque Porsche.

The flagship Q8 variant will be equipped with the same engine/motor configuration that is currently found in the Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid, according to Autocar.

In the sedan, the powertrain delivers a combined 680 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque with 550 ponies from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 and an additional 136 horses from an electric motor.

The setup is good for a 3.2-second launch to 60 mph and a top speed of 192 mph. The SUV will presumably not match Porsche's sedan in terms of performance, though it could be close.

If the report is accurate, Audi is presumably aiming to upstage the Mercedes-Benz GLE 63, Range Rover Sport SVR and BMW X6 M -- all non-hybrid SUVs with 0-60 mph benchmarks in the low four-second range.
