Jaguar is reportedly planning a new “baby XK” to rival the Porsche Cayman and BMW Z4 Coupe. The car is an offshoot of the dormant X600 program, which included the popular F-Type concept (pictured right). “Some of the styling features which made the F-Type such a hit with fans of the marque are likely to be kept.” Unlike BMW and Porsche , Jaguar will release a coupe version first. It’s unclear if a cabriolet/roadster will follow. Plans are said to be at an extremely early stage, but designers Ian Callum and Julian Thompson are already developing proposals for how the car could look. The car is expected to use Jaguar’s new aluminium chassis technology and will be powered by a V6 engine coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox.
