While Leftlane already laid out the top 10 “Can’t miss” cars headed for RM’s Scottsdale auto auction next week, we also thought you might be interested in a special Mustang that is heading to another auction and for a very special cause.

The car in question is a one-off, all-metal bodywork widebody Mustang created at Galpin Auto Sports (AKA GAS). What really makes this car special, though, is the fact that the proceeds from the sale are destined not for some rich car collector’s pockets, but St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The car was commissioned by SPX Corporation, with the intention of heading to the Barrett-Jackson Collection Car Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, all along. SPX selected GAS to do the dirty work, and what you see in the gallery above is the result.

“We are proud to support the vital care that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital provides to so many children and families, and hope to raise as much money as possible for them with our charity car auction at the Barrett‐Jackson event in early 2012,” said Christopher J. Kearney, chairman, president and CEO of SPX.

The details
The SPX Mustang features a nine-inch wider body thanks to the addition of some handy metal work, along with an impressive 711 horsepower (thanks largely to a Ford Racing supercharger) 5.0 V8 screaming out of a Bassani Performance exhaust system. Power is transferred to the ground via 335/25/22 Pirelli tires wrapped around Forgiato 22 by 14-inch wide wheels in the rear, with 295/25/21 tires on three-piece GTR 21 by 11-inch wide wheels in the front.

The exterior of the car features a custom PPG Candy Apple Red Pearl paint job, a red suede interior with black leather trim, a 1,000-watt JL Audio sound system and countless other details inside, out and underneath its skin.

Think this would look good in your garage, or simply have a big heart and an even larger wallet? Go place a bid for the kids (and get the car).
