Chrysler ’s $2.99 gas deal has been less than a resounding success, but that hasn’t stopped upstart company MyGallons from offering a similar deal independent of buying a new car. But while the lack of Chrysler’s success hasn’t stopped the company, an investigation by the Better Business Bureau could.
Like Chrysler’s deal, MyGallons allows customers to lock in today’s gas prices on a specially issued credit card. However, unlike Chrysler’s program, MyGallons’ is likely little more than a money making scam.

The company originally claimed that it had partnered with U.S. Bank to provide the service, but an investigation by the BBB revealed that U.S. Bank declined to work with MyGallons, according to The Consumerist.

Moreover, it was revealed that MyGallons has no contracts in place with any gas stations to accept its credit card. Despite the lack of any solid business relationships, MyGallons continues to sign up customers for its program.

MyGallons makes it money through an annual membership fee, as well as the gamble that gas prices will eventually dip below their current record-setting levels.

MyGallons claims that it will announce a new major partnership next week, but it would appear wise to steer clear of this apparent scam.
