The A-pillar on the new 8-gen Honda Civic is so thick near the bottom where it connects to the hood/dash, that they actually had to put a small window there.

I agree with MKBruin; just titlt your head a bit and you can see around any A-pillar. The accident is your fault if you don't see something due to your unwillingness to slightly move your own head.

Ehhh- yes it is ridiculous what people do people can be dumb. I also saw the show it was on Discovery channel they were show casing car safety and technology
Hal- it makes it somebody elses business when you crash into them idiot... wonder how many accidents you've had doing all of that but this isn't personal this is a car site, and I feel your somewhat kidding. If your not that makes you just another idiot that shouldn't be on the road, because it puts my family and others families in danger and I'm sure EVERYONE will agree with me on that, besides you because you have no family or loved ones to put in danger, or simply don't care. Luckily I and my family are responsible drivers and care about the safety of others.
CRUISE CONTROL is to make driving easier, but whenver you drive (or crash) a car THE DRIVER TAKES THE RESPONSIBILITY, not the cruise control.

I've seen people reading books pressed against the steering wheel. I remember a Discovery Channel show on car safety (or History channel) a while back that showed a Volvo SUV concept. It featured all sorts of new safety gadgets, but one thing it did have was a modified A pillar that looked that was made up of triangle frames so you could see threw the pillar. I always thought that it was a good idea, and thought it would eventually be brought into production...but no luck so far.

I consider myself a pretty aware driver but every now and then, even though I've looked, a car will come out of that blind spot that I could have sworn wasn't there before. It just reminds me that maybe I need to look a little more closely. Anyway, speaking of distracted drivers, years ago when I was living in LA I saw a guy driving down the 101 in a large SUV with a laptop inbetween him and the steering wheel. I thought jeeze is this who I'm sharing the highway with?!?

Jay, that’s why countries like Germany make getting a driver’s license so damn complex, hard, and expensive.

Yeah I agree. Some drivers will always be irresponsible. Even after ABS, TC, SC, etc. people still manage to get into an accident. I see many people driving talking on the cell phone, and often I'll see one rear end the car in front of them. When I talk on the cell phone, I pull over and make it short. And it isn't just the cell phone, it's mostly just multitasking in general. I even saw some idiot on the highway reading a book on the steering wheel in Washington DC area in the "mixing bowl", with his eyes tooken off the road! Anyones whos been through there will know the mixing bowls a terrible mess. STUPID people.

People need to take responsibility, or just not drive at all!

did they measure how many degrees you have to move your head to see around the blind spot?

tilt your head 5 degrees to the left and eliminate the blind spot.

but that would put personal responsibility back on the driver who is talking on his cell phone, eating breakfast, reaching for a paper in the back seat, changing the radio honking the horn and yelling at the driver in front of them doing the same damned thing.

Engineers and attorneys will take a thicker and stronger A-pillar to protect in side-impact and roll-over crashes over a few degrees of static sitelines any day of the week.

It is the snazzy/swoopy C and D pillars that are too thick merely for style.

You do know that the vehicle the Brits call the Cherokee is known here as the Liberty, right? Nonetheless, the GC does indeed have a horrid blind spot.
