Bentley considering Azure coupe; no Panamera equivalent

06/05/2006, 12:17 PM

Bentley is considering building a new hardtop coupe version of its Azure cabriolet, engineering board member Ulrich Eichhorn told Automobilwoche. However, Eichhorn flatly rejected rumors that the Volkswagen subsidiary might build an a four-door coupe to match the Porsche Panamera or Aston Martin Rapide. Rumors had suggested that Bentley could build a four-door coupe based on the Continental, or even collaborate via Volkswagen with Porsche and use the Panamera platform.

I’ll bet the Azure coupe would look pretty good.
I just saw a Continental GT in traffic the other day, I could not believe how little it stood out from other traffic. Must be too many 300C’s out there looking similar.

Continental GT looks nothing like the 300C. In fact, looking at the whole bentley line-up, nothing actually looks anything like the 300C. The 300C just happens to be done in a somewhat bentley style. But it doesn’t look ANYTHING like any of their cars.

The Azure was based on a coupe called the Continental R.

It was a Continental R with the roof chopped off.

Not sure what this article is about really…

300c does look a bit like the Bentley Arnage. The continental on the other hand just looks plain ****. Bentley has lost its direction in design and now looks plain gay

you are all right…. why purchase a GRAND TOURER (hence the GT part of Continental GT)

I mean, it has power, handeling, exclusivity, good looks, comfort, luxury, and trunk space. who could possibly need any of those. a Carerra GT is a much better option for those needing/wanting a tourer.

If you are rich you buy bespoke tailoring. Saville Row Suits Jermyn Street Shirts made especially for you with no chavvy designer labels on the outside. Only a few coastal AMericans know how to be classy, George CLooney has class as did Cary Grant and Rock Hudson. Having money helps but you can’t buy it. The french and Italians can do it too, but the kings and queens of class are the British. So to distance yourself from the mere rich you will buy one of these.

WHat is with this whole 4-door coupe thing? I don’t get it. WHat’s the difference between that and a sedan? By the way, Rock Hudson wasn’t classy, wasn’t metro, he was homo.

A RR Phantom, ugly as it may be, is at least a better way to distance oneself from the new-Bentley driving crowd. And at about double what a Bentley costs, it can easily show off your wealth.
