Bentley unveils Continental GT Speed

08/01/2007, 8:45 AM

By Drew Johnson

Bentley has unveiled its most powerful factory production car ever, the 600-horsepower Continental GT Speed. The new car possesses 15 percent more power, or 50 horsepower, over the standard Continental GT’s twin-turbo W12 engine. Both models feature mildly revised styling and suspension tuning.

The Speed recalls a Bentley name of yore that distinguished more powerful Bentleys from the standard models. Not only does the Speed promise better acceleration, but Bentley claims that its top speed is 203 mph, an increase over the 198 of the standard model. Bentley also publishes a 4.3 second 0-60 mph sprint for the Speed.

Exterior revisions are subtle, but include a more upright grille aimed at better airflow. Underneath, both the Speed and regular model get a lightened suspension – an 80 pound weight reduction – and new shock absorbers.

Both the Speed and the standard Continental GT get 20-inch wheels, although the Speed’s are half an inch wider and come wrapped grippy Pirelli P-Zero tires. The Speed has its own steering tuning, more aggressive suspension settings and stiffer anti-roll bars.

Who buys these things anyways? Rich folks with a lot of money and patience to put up with such an unreliable mechanical nightmare. How many Cadillacs can you buy with this money and never ever have a problem with any of them? Sometimes I wonder just how stupid people can be to fall for thiese crappers.

hahah its more like GM should learn from honda and toyota how to make decent cars. you could put me in a hybrid camry before i would ever be seen in a cadillac.
the people that buy these cars dont worry about reliability, they buy them so people can see them in a bently. & their leases will end far before any serious problems may crop up, even if problems do occur they (should) have enough money to send them to the dealer and cruise around in some other obscencely luxurious car

Actually, out of all the ‘exotics’ the Bentleys are the best built and most reliable.

If GM builds the Sixteen, it’ll be the end of Bentley as we know it.

You can pretty much put a for sale sign up at the factory and dealerships.

That is one beautiful car, looks powerful looking, yet formal and elegant.

Really nice performance numbers too, I love the rims and few changes.

I’m going to ignore 1487_GM_SALES incompetent, 12 year old mind, he’s trying to copy (or is) GM_Number1_4ever, but unlike those who used the name a while ago, your not humorous at all, just an annoying, pubescent zit-popping kid.

that being said though my next car will be the next gen cts only because i thing its beautiful, mechanically bmw will still be better.

I don’t know where GM_Sales and 55amg are getting their facts about GM interiors. I rented a G6 once, and found the interior to be extremely cheap. And part of the marketing of the updated ‘08 Vette is that the interior fit and finish has improved. That’s GM talking!

There isn’t much need for improving on the Vette. GM consistantly leads the pack in interior quality and design. Your comments about the G6 are completely wrong and scream bias.

Frolan: I’ve driven two GM cars to a combined 310K, and my honda and toyota breathed their last at 91K and 84K, respectively.

My little sister drives a camry (her 2d car), but the other former toyonda driver in my family now drive
Ford (2)
tahoe
Olds
Mazda
caddy

If i could afford a bentley, i’d drive a ferrari

so, if these folks can produce decent cars, they can feel free to start doing so at any time

See a pattern here?

That’s a sweet car – the “regular” GT is a stunner, and not totally unreasonable at $150,000 US. I mean, more expensive than a 911 Turbo, but a much more luxurious ride and probably a better daily driver.

I’d consider one if I had that kind of money to throw at a car.
