The styling of Bentley's EXP 9 F SUV was met with mixed results following its debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, but the automaker's chief executive says the luxury utility vehicle is heading to production as-is.

Although the EXP 9 F's exterior styling was widely criticized by the motoring press, the Range Rover-rivaling SUV received strong marks from current Bentley owners - i.e. the people that will be plunking down well over six-figures for the most expensive SUV on the market. As such, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer says the concept's styling will be making the transition to production.

"A Bentley is not a car for everyone," he told Inside Line.

He added that current Bentley owners rated the styling of the EXP 9 F "between 7 and 10."

Despite its aspirations to topple Land Rover's Range Rover with the EXP 9 F, the Bentley SUV won't be a true off-roader. Durheimer said the SUV "will be able to sustain the stress of off-road driving", but won't be designed to handle the same rugged terrain as the Range Rover.

The production version of the Bentley EXP 9 F is expected to launch sometime in 2015.
