More details surface on Bentley’s biofuel supercar

02/17/2009, 1:03 PM

By Drew Johnson

Bentley is readying its “fastest, most powerful production car ever” for a March reveal at the Geneva Motor Show, and we now have some stats to backup that claim. Although not much is known about the biofueled model, it will definitely be Continental-based fire-breather.

The car will deliver “supercar performance,” according to Bentley. “This new model is very much the extreme Bentley,” reads a statement to the press. The vehicle will be capable of running on biofuel, which the company says represents “stage one of Bentley’s environmental commitment.”

Per a new report, the new supercar will sport 630 horsepower and a lower overall curb weight than a typical Bentley model. In fact, the biofueled beast could even do without rear seats. Whatever the final configuration, expect the car to hit 60 mph in four seconds flat.

Bentley’s current most powerful model is the Continental GT Speed, which delivers 600 horsepower. It has a top speed of 202 mph and can accelerate to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds.

Stay tuned for specs and photos closer to the Geneva show.

Has anyone noticed that we’re seeing a lot of shadows of cars on the past few posts from LLN

I wish somebody will measure bio fuel efficiencies in cows or hamburgers. How many cheeseburgers doe it take to fill up that tank? We could fed 15 cows, but choose to drive this Bently instead.

Fyi- I think I’m going to go into the biofuel business by filtering used cooking oil from all the local chinese restraunts, and selling for half of what the oil company’s charge for the regular diesel.

Hear the thunderous roar as it passes like a blur on the motorway, that and the distinct smell of french fries as you ponder what that supercar could have been.

Now I’m confused, which biofuel is it gonna use? Ethanol or biodiesel? A biodiesel engine tuned for sh*tloads of horsepower would get this thing moving like none other. Tons of torque to move the heavy car isn’t bad either, but I really wanna see where this goes. Kinda seems a bit unnecessary though.

LOL @ Struggle. There’s got to be a way to get rid of the smell…

Dante; Ethanol wastes more energy in production than it saves… not a good long term solution. Bio-diesel can be made from just about anything from garbage to grass clippings relatively easily.

btw: that shot of the engine looks like it’s the Audi R10 V-12…

-I realize that ethanol isn’t exactly an efficient solution, but they haven’t really said too much about it. I don’t think it’s a diesel though as that tach goes up much higher than any of their diesels would ever rev.
